VAG cars

We all know how people bang on about how bad mg/ rover cars are and how good German cars are, gets my goat lol.

Well my second daughter got her first car before Christmas and after being convinced to avoid rover ( head gaskets ) by others, she was convinced that. VAG. Car would be bullet proof.

Well let me tell you they are far from bullet proof and I wish she had listened to me and gone for a 25 diesel I showed her. On seing her car for the first time a couple of weeks ago ( she now lives in Wolverhampton and we are in South wales ) I had a quick once over.

To my horror the expansion tank had no coolant but instead just plain water, it was also full of oil and what looked like copper slip, so I guess it was a leak stopper of some sort. The engine was covered in oil. I have sorted the coolant system out and everything is now as it should be but how strange I found it that when googled apparently H/Gasket failure was common.

It also has a rattling timing chain and uneven idle, again common. I had to change a passenger door actuator as the switch was faulty, guess what common. Next I noticed the car steaming up, there was water at base of rear door seals, again common. I google the leaking rear doors but found the cure to be incorrect and have sorted it myself, the rear window channels stop at base of glass, this causes water to drip onto loom in door and in tern onto the window cassette. Water then tracks down to foam seal at base and into car, it also drips from other side onto lock shield given same result. In short I would say poor design.

There are quite a few other faults, all of which when googled are described as very common lol.

So next time someone criticises your mg/rover and praise their German ****e tell them where to go LMAO.
