Definitive rear beam/axle information
Hello everyone
The reason I am seeking for help from you guys is actually quite a sad one. Earlier this week I had an accident in my ZR TD where I hit a curb with my rear driver side wheel at some speed. After carefull inspection I noticed that despite the broken rim (crazy broken), I'm kinda "lucky" to say that I'm almost 100% certain that the only real damage on the car is a slightly bent rear axle.
My car has rear disc brakes, they are in good shape, the stubs look fine as does everything else after the accident.
My questions are:
1 - If I'd buy a rear beam / axle / H frame, but with rear drums, could I just take off every drum component and simply bolt on the rear discs I already have?
2 - Are all rear axles the same size, width, length despite whatever braking method and/or model it came from (diesel, 1.4, 1.8, Rover 25, ZR etc.)
My fear is that the axle has different fittings and sizes and that the axle with drums would have slightly less width resulting in the wheels tucking in more in the wells. Perhaps this doesn t even aply to MG/rover cars but this is a common problem with other cars making it quite difficult to make a car remain with the right dimensions.
I have extensively googled and searched many threads but with no definitive awnser as to the "disc/drum/axle" differences if there are any...
And to finish, the reason why I'm inclined to get one with drums is because I'm from Portugal and sourcing MG Rover parts around here is pretty hard and can get quite expensive so I work with what I've got.
Sorry for the long text. Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers
