Trouble starting

Had a bit of a fright this morning. For the first time in living memory my 2002 diesel auto with 178k on the clock failed to start first time. In fact, it started 5th time....

I have just over a quarter of a tank so I'm suspecting a fuel tank pump. I havent listened to hear it whirring yet as I drove straight to work, but on the fourth try it sounded like it was almost about to catch, and then it started on the 5th - almost like it was having to draw the fuel through.

Once it had started it drove normally.

In 7 years I havent had to change the fuel pumps but is there anything else that I should check? Perhaps the injectors could benefit from some attention at these mileages but any suggestions would be very helpful.

When i have some spare money I intend to get the injectors looked at as a preventative ayway.
