Elevated engine idle speed

For the last couple of months the engine idle speed has occasionally been a bit high - about 1500 rpm on the dial - but a "blip" of the throttle would bring it back down to normal.

Yesterday, the "blip" stopped working - the idle revs are staying at about 1500 or higher.

I have bought a TPS and inlet manifold pressure sensor and plan to fit them this weekend hoping at least the TPS would help. (I had this once before on my last F and seem to recall the TPS fixed it, but not 100% sure.)

What are the other likely causes? I've not heard it mentioned, but is there a limp-home mode on these cars?
