ZR160, 17" wheels -- 14" spare? Really?
My 54-reg Mk2 ZR160 has 17" wheels. Recently, I took it to a tyre shop because the front offside wasn't holding pressure. They removed the tyre to inspect it and found it needed replacing. The only problem was they didn't have a matching one in stock.
No problem: we'll put the spare on while they get the right tyre and put it on the rim, then bring the car back and swap the wheels over.
The spare had never been used, in fact it had probably never been out of the car. Its tyre (Bridgestone) still had the little spiky bits on the tread, and the clamping screw was very stiff. The polystyrene thingy holding the jack etc fitted inside perfectly.
It was a steel wheel and smaller than 17", as expected. But it wouldn't go over the brakes, which was a bit of a surprise. Is a 14" spare normal kit?
(The fix was a trip home in their car to collect one of my spare 17" set with winter tyres on. And a 17" wheel actually fits in the space in the boot, so I have sourced a 17" straight to be a full-size spare, with a cheap non-directional tyre.)
All's well that ends well. But 14"? Really?
