EML on

Whilst stuck in traffic the eml light came on and I'm away from home so don't have a code reader so I was wondering if I disconnect the battery and hold the pos and neg leads together for 30 seconds will this clear the codes and hopefully the car will run ok to get me home, or is this a no no.
