MGF Diesel Conversion - Exhaust Options, External Wastegate
In preparation for my MGF Diesel Conversion I have been looking at
the exhaust, it is going to be a very simple installation compared to
a petrol turbo conversion thanks in part to the exhaust being on the
rear of the engine rather than the front so it will be going straight
out the back of the car.
Since everything is to the rear it raises the question of fitting an
external wastegate, the EGR is blanked off but it looks an ideal size
for one, a screamer pipe may be an option but after reading up on
the matter it may not be the best idea, at least the fumes will be
going in the right direction compared to cars with the L-Series up front.
As for the system itself, you can see form the diagrams below that
it won't need too much work, if a Freelander manifold is fitted then
the 400 downpipe upper flange could just be cut off and refitted on
a 45' angle so it will be going to the side rather than out the back,
with the CAT fitted on it should go stright to the back box, I have a
Miltec box with the car, weather that is suitable remains to be seen.
LAND ROVER FREELANDER (Manifold only)
400 EXHAUST (The Downpipe, CAT and Flexi will be used)
MGF EXHUAST (Backbox and modified downpipe will be used)
The system itself should not take much to put together, another
option is to just make use of CYBOX who are a stones throw from
me and get them to make up a custom stainless setup, with the
CAT added to the back box they could make me up a pipe going
from there to the manifold with a flexi in between.
Hints, tips and opinions welcome chaps. ;)
