HELP, I think I've bought a Donkey!!

Newbie member and virgin poster here so please be gentle with me!!



I've been hankering after an MGTF for a while now and one came up locally at a good price so I bought it (as an early birthday present for my wife!!)



The vehicle has been stood since Christmas, as the owner was unable to drive so the battery was flat. I connected the jump leads and found that all the dash lights were very dim, the mileometer didn't illuminate or show the mileage and the vehicle would turn over but not start.



After two or three attempts the dash lights suddenly became bright and the mileometer lit up and the car started first turn.



I road tested the car and it drove okay. I returned to the house and a deal was struck.



I had to put the jump leads on again as the battery was flat and the dash lights were dim again, mileometer not illuminted and the vehicle would turn over but not fire up.



After about ten minutes of pressing the immobilser and turning the key on and off the dash lights became bright, the mileometer lit up and displayed the mileage and the car started ok. I drove it the ten miles or so home and put a new battery on it yesterday. It's doing exactly the same as with the old worn out battery and i've spent nearly all day today looking on the internet to try and find out what the problem is as it will not go at all now!



HELP..... I don't know what to do!!!!!
