Inlet manifold/gasket leaking yet again...
A few years ago I posted this thread about a recurring leak from the inlet manifold/gasket on what was my parents 416 (now mine): http://ift.tt/1eDZEdb
Although the car has since spent a couple of years off road, I thought the problem had gone away as all has been well for the last year that its been on the road.
HOWEVER, a few nights ago after work walking back to my car I noticed a wet patch on the ground. I lifted the bonnet and could see the coolant level had dropped.....and yes you guessed it, coolant was visible around the front/side of the block which had run from the inlet manifold. Here we go again!
I topped up with water, and it has been OK since. However, whenever it has done this previously, it is always intermittent - it can seemingly not loose any coolant for a couple of weeks, slowly loose coolant, or suddenly loose a whole tank.
I have not had an issue with inlet manifold/gaskets repeated leaking on any other Rover.

- It is fitted with a genuine MG Rover inlet gasket - the green one.
- I had previously tried tightening the nuts/bolts up loosely - in case I had been over tightening.
- I had also tried tightening the nuts/bolts up nice and tight - in case I had not been tightening them enough.
- I had tried to use a torque wrench - where it was possible as access was difficult.
- I fitted the old manifold from my Rover 214 to eliminate the possibility of a warped/iffy manifold. I suppose it is possible that the one I fitted is iffy itself - it did come off a high mileage car which had previously suffered HGF.
