MG TF Sunstorm having engine issue
So after a compression test today things dont look good 2, 3&4 are in the green readings 11+ to 13- no 1 is at just under 4... a wet test on no 1 moved it to 7 bar of pressure.
Between tonys research it would lead me to the idea that its a piston ring or worse...
So what to do? I plan on removing the head later on to hopefully see something?.. again any advice.....?url=http://ift.tt/1etpAaV][/url]
The misfire is registered by ECU code but under idles it seems to pull and drive ok but this is a 1.6 so maybe I'm over estimating how it should pull / drive.
There is a slight shudder when it is idling, call me crazy but it just doesn't feel as it should I'm convincing myself that theres a knocking noise....
Compression I think ?? Is the only way of knowing....
I will upload some pictures later....So I collected the car today, I knew it had a misfire on cylinder 1 before I bought it. So having fettled today, I cant seem to find the fault and fear its the end for this little engine....
I have changed the injector, swop them with others on the rail hoping it would shift the fault and hence identify the problem. Plugs all changed, coil pack leads swopped about. Timing marks checked.....
Fuel filter changed.... after all this removed the power for over 30mins and reset the ECU of all faults, ran the car although it runs very slightly higher rpm nothing changed.
I think that the next step is compression testing but I'll have to go buy one!
Can anyone else help me out with this fault or give me a push in the right direction, any help advice appreciated. ?o this is the new addition to my collection.... it needs work but we'll see how much today. I hope that it is repairable and it it worth returning to the road... if not it will sadly be broken.....Thanks to tony for the info found.
