Pressure in the coolant system ...
As some may know, I recently changed the engine and gearbox in my 1995 116,000 mile MGF. A great job done by MG Rover Mobile Mechanics.
Now within a 1000 miles of the repair one hose pipe developed a pin hole and split - caught in time by low coolant warning light. Repaired but 400 miles down the road another pin hole in another pipe resulted in lost coolant and now a new pipe needed (incidentally low coolant alarm did it again!!)
Whilst they are annoying they are relatively easy / cheap fixes - as caught in time. But it got me thinking. In 6 years of owning my MGF I never had a coolant issue. But I replace my 116,000 mile engine with a sub 30,000 mile one and I get two hoses in a row go. I know the hoses are old and prob needed changing anyway, but I wondered if the new engine - which undoubtedly has more oomph in it than the old - would it pressurise the water more? And thus exposing the weak hoses??
I'm just curious - plus a bit nervous there are other hoses yet to blow!!!
Best
