Gearbox cable rod

Hi everyone,

I've recently got myself another mgf. This morning when I tried to put the car in gear it was a little stiff and wouldn't select any gear. However it got stuck in 1st gear. I've jacked the car up, and it seems the rod at the end of one of the gearbox cables has snapped.



Does that mean I need to replace the whole cable or is there a repair that can be done to the rod that snapped off?



The rod btw isn't bent or anything, looks like the threads that attach it to the cable has threaded or something...
