Rover 45 CAR to DOOR harness fault - wires off at plug.
A friend with a 1.8 auto told me last week that he'd lost sound from the driver's door speaker. Today when I saw him at church he said that his window wouldn't go down. I'm semi-retired now so I said I could have a look at it for him sometime soon and that it sounded like he might have a problem with the car to door wiring at the front of the door. He then went out and waggled the wiring whilst operating the driver's window switch and it went part way down but wouldn't move again. As he has no garage, is partially disabled and lives in a high crime area, I asked if he wanted to follow me home so that I could try to fix it or at least get the window back up. In the end I found a broken wire at the front of the door on the back of the plug that fits into the door, although that was a speaker wire so I presume the window wire is only broken inside the insulation. I got the window up by applying voltage from a spare battery directly to the unplugged window motor which is not earthed to the door (I checked first). What seems to be required is a new bit of car to door harness with the door plug on the end. Does anyone know if that bit of harness is available and, if so, how it is connected to the main loom?
