TF 115 engine rebuild.

Hi all

following on from an earlier thread about dropped valve guides.

A friend dropped off his TF 115 so that I can rebuild his engine after a garage totaled it ! (he drove 600 miles to me with the car on a rented recovery truck)

Basically, there was coolant use, he saw white smoke from the exhaust pipes, stopped, topped up the tank, drove to garage who stripped off head and turned over the engine by hand and up popped 2 liners !!!!!!

They must of panicked because they then said the valve guides had dropped and the block was ruined, the engine is dead and he needs a new one, that will be 2500 euros please !

After looking and checking everything, I've come to the conclusion that the head is perfect, flat, clean, no pits or round cylinder marks.

One of the pistons has been washed, it's much cleaner than the others, I think inlet manifold was leaking coolant into the cylinder.

There is no oil in water or water oil mixing of mayonaise in the sump.

So, I need to reseal the 2 liners, maybe all 4 of them, can i do this without removing the sump and big ends etc ???

It looks like it could be done by clamping 3 liners at a time and lifting the liner as the piston comes up.

Any views on this ?

I have never trusted garages and have always done my own repairs, I know there are a good ones out there, even my brother is a mechanic, but it's not easy finding one.

An engine rebuild because of an inlet manifold leak, why did they even touche it if they knew nothing about this engine.

Pete.
