MG ZR Engine Swap
Hello!
Im new around here and hopefully looking to find some expert advice! :)
I recently got hold of a 05 plate MG ZR 1.4 off my brother. The car was parked up for a long time, Firstly the heater broke, then the gunk in the water - seemingly needed a head done. The engine was starting and running but the battery died, and due to the period of nearly 2 years of tot being run/ started the ECU/ Immobiliser had lost its programme. Serious neglect - I know!
To compound the issue, he has since lost the keys and fob. Luckily we live in a reasonable quiet area and the car is not locked.
So to get this lady running and going again, I need 3 things, - Engine repair, New ECU/ Immobiliser, and keys etc.
This is going to add up cost wise, and I was hoping to limit expenditure.
So my plan was to buy an old 01 -02 plate rover 25, crashed or just for sale at the right money, and use it as a donor car. Id hope to get one for about 3-400.
My question is, is the engine a straight swap? And will the older cars locks/ ignition barrell and ECU immobiliser etc interchange?
Thanks
Rob
