Rover 25 Gearbox-driveshaft seal
Hi :)
I'm new here so I apologise if I've posted in the wrong place!
I've recently bought my first Rover - a 25. I noticed it had an oil leak and a bad smell when engine was hot. Took it to the family mechanic who managed to find the problem - a broken gearbox/driveshaft seal. So he ordered a new one, but when it arrived and he took off the driveshaft, he noticed that it wouldn't fit because the gearbox has recently been replaced, and whilst it's still a Rover one, it's not one for a 25. Problem is, we're not sure which Rover. "/
The seal has rubber on the outside as well as the inside, unlike the one we've ordered. We went around all parts suppliers in my home town, and nobody seemed able to help. The mechanic has the parts number but I don't unfortunately.
My question is if anyone else has had this problem or if they know what type of seal it could be? I know it's a long shot but worth a try :)
I'm really sorry if I haven't used the right terminology etc. I'm not mechanically minded and I'm just trying to remember what the mechanic said :)
Thank you.
