Rover 45 2004 "Facelift" - Steering wheel controls but with a twist.
I've spent some time looking though past posts for a solution so please be tolerant if I've missed it!
Car is a Rover 45 2004 so called "facelift". It is fitted with steering wheel controls which worked fine with the OEM VDO head unit. I purchased a PC99-X39 adapter with a PC99-Ken patch lead for a new Kenwood head unit.
The loom has standard ISO connections and connects fine to the new Kenwood, without the steering wheel controls of course.
The old VDO head unit had a fly lead which connected into a small black two pin socket which was within the ISO loom. I'm assuming that this arrangement is for the steering wheel controls. The PC99-X39 has a red socket into which the green ISO C plug would go if I had one but I don't! As an aside, I did have a green plug but I suspect it is for front fog lamps. It does not have the staggered pin arrangement of the min ISO c plug and will not fit the red socket.
I bought the PC99-X39 from Dynamic Sounds and their technical support suggested that I might need the PC99-X04 as "the commands must be coming from the power ISO plug instead".
I've looked at the black power ISO and this has five wires which I believe to be:
Red - +12v battery
Yellow- +12v ignition
Black - ground
Orange - illumination
Blue- power control for aerial.
The Kenwood loom connects to all of these with the exception of the orange.
Therefore I can't see how the steering wheel control is coming through this plug at all and therefore the PC99-X04 doesn't seem to be right either. The key seems to be the extra two pin plug. The wires to this are coloured green and brown and there is no sign of the pink and white wires normally associated with the steering controls.
Has anyone come across this arrangement and managed to get the steering controls to work?
