Rover 25 diesel air con problem

Hi all wondering if anyone can help me on this one please?



As per the title i've got a 25 diesel on a 51 reg and basically the air con clicks on when it wants to. I can press the button sometimes and it comes on straight away, the compressor clutch clicks on. Then sometimes it can be two or three short runs turning the car on and off around town then it will decide to work.



I know about the pressure switch not making the system work if there's not enough refridgerant in it, but when the air con is on, it blows cold. Could it be that theres not enough stuff in the system to make it work all the time but enough to have a bit of pressure when the times right? I say blows cold too but its not real icy.



Worth a 'regas' at the local place maybe? Or is there a trick to test the system?
