Rover 45 Aftermarket stereo adapter

Hey all, I've purchased an aftermarket stereo and a halfords arial adaptor ( the loom ends in a right angle) and since I've fitted it I've had nothing but poor reception. It seems that the tiny little pin that extends from the loom is not making a proper contact. Can anyone shed any light on how to fix this as I cannot stand listening to the radio the way it is
