Tf 1.6 engine locked up
Me and the mrs out last week top down didnt last 20 miles. When we heard what can only be described as a fallen exhaust scraping the road, I coasted to the side of road as everything just died. Got it home via tow on inspection the alternater belt was goosed so replaced that anyway car would still not start, Further investigation revealed timing belt still in one piece so tried turning over with socket on bottom pully not a chance it will turn a quater turn past timing mark (bottom pully) then a quater turn the other way. Removed the plugs to make it easier still just the same however all four pistons do have movement in them so the bottom end may be ok. Given i cant turn full revolution via bottom pully i cant realy use timing marks as a referance as the bottom pully lines up but top two are way off, that said they would maybe line up if i could get full turn on engine (maybe). I know the head will have to come off and im hopeing its just a couple of bent valves how this has happened is beond me as we never drive it like we stole it. Do i try to repair or plum for 2nd hand head (if thats the culprit) to say we are gutted is an understatment. Has anyone had this happen before and what was the damage caused or can anyone shed any light on this for me
