Crankshaft Position Sensor............where is it?

Was recently given a nice 2003 Rover 45 1.8 with K Series engine. Having starting issues which have been diagnosed as the CKP sensor.........but I can't find it. Leaning in from the passenger side of the car I believe it should be underneath the throttle area, but I still can't find it. I have a service manual from eBay which is pretty useless as it just points to the general location; the section that describes removal has no pictures so I'm still no nearer to finding it.

This appears to be the one that I need to replace it with but I'd rather find the part before order a new one.

Does it sit vertically? Does half of the component sit inside the engine housing? My skills are fairly basis but this should be easy.

Can anyone help out?

Also would like to replace the head gasket with a better one, can anyone recommend a manual or guide that I can follow. Time isn't an issue, even if it takes me weeks to work my way through it.

Thanks
