Temperature Gauge Odd Reading
Hi All
I previously posted up with some odd temperature gauge issues that also seem to be common, but never resolved. I thought I had fixed the issue previously, but it's back again and I'm stumped, so if anyone has any ideas, that'd be hugely helpful..
Problem is that the gauge does read, but not the whole amount it should do. I have tried:-
Replaced thermostat
Replaced coolant rail
Cleaned and flushed cooling system
Replaced blue temperature sender (the one underneath on the coolant elbow)
Replaced ECU temperature sender at the front of the coolant elbow
Tested by Earthing the blue connector and get full gauge reading
Cleaned main engine bay Earth on the slam panel (this improved the reading slightly for a while, but now reading low again).
Cleaned Earth point where the blue temperature sender meets the coolant elbow
On both occasions the problem surfaced, the car had been standing for about a month unused, but the battery hadn't gone flat. Also, on both occasions, the car drove and read normally on the first drive after being stood, with the bad reading occurring on the second run. This most recent time, I watched the gauge settle in the usual place, just below half way, before it fell to zero reading, then came back up to a quarter, all in the space of about 5 seconds
Does anyone have any ideas on this? I have two different MGs here, belonging to different people and both suffering with the same fault
Cheers,
Wigster.
