Exhaust woes

Well after putting it off since I bought it (and saw the state of the bolts) I finally took the plunge and decided to change it for a stainless backbox.

After a frustrating day of swearing trying to change a system that had been on since new (15 years) the following verdict:

No way will I be changing the backbox hanger bushes as the nuts on the heat sheild don't look too clever. Anyone bothered doing this?

Mine seem ok just a little wear.

I have therefore purchased a new stainless strap to take some pressure off the hangers and bushes.

The original cat was destroyed from trying to get the bolts off. Picking new one up tomorrow from eurocarparts.

Downpipe flexi section took a bit of pressure from trying to get the only good nut off hidden away at back.(old backbox ground off for access) Still wouldnt budge so I ended up spending 1 hour with a junior hacksaw. Note to self to buy a dremel! I also tried Clives method of drilling into side of nut but as I live on the. 3rd floor of a converted house electricity is not an option outside for me and that cordless drill that seemed such a good buy from aldi clearly has limitations. ( another new tool for Xmas list)

Downpipe is therefore what has me most worried but hopefully the flexi has survived. Looking at the location of the downpipe nuts (4 bolt type) it doesn't look like there is room for a socket. I tried to check access whilst under car and concluded f*** that! Any tips if I need to remove and replace?

So to conclude hopefully everything will go back together better than it came off next weekend. Car obviously out of action until then. I will replace everything with cat saver nuts and will replace the downpipe rubber mount so hopefully it will be much easier in future should I need to remove anything.

Wish I had a car lift and garage absolutely knackered!!
