... and then there was smoke

ok, it's not as bad as it sounds, but.



I was toddling my way to work in my usual fashion and noticed that I couldn't select anything but fourth gear. Now that was ok while the traffic was moving. Then came the traffic lights.



Man oh man, yes the F can get away from a standing start in fourth gear with lots of clutch-slip and -- a little rubbery smoke -- but not well.



I pulled over and gently ripped the boot off the gear stick. The selector mechanism and cable assembly looked ok. I jumped back in the car and sort of fished for gears. I could manage to get second so I stuck it in gear, pulled my cap down, and drove off trying not to look like too much of a try hard spinning RPMs in the city limits...



Now what!
