Non start after head gasket replacement.

hi all



Well my problem child of an 825 sterling couple went back in the garage this week.



The head gasket was replaced with a multi layer steel. The cylinder head was cracked and machined.



The water pump was replaced with a second hand part as a new one had two bolt holes that wouldn't align.



A power steering pipe was replaced to rectify a leak.



A couple of days ago I picked the car up from the garage. The mechanic advised it hadn't been test driven as it just been rebuilt.



I drove it steadily up to motorway speeds and noticed a loss of power, engine misfire and a vibration under acceleration.



I few miles more and I stopped in a layby. I did manage to start the car but it seemed to be more reluctant.



By the time it got to the Garage it would turn over but not fire.



The exhaust blew out white smoke but seemed to clear after a few miles. However it returned when the patrol turned up.



Any ideas what the issue could be?
