Rover 25 running problems.

Hello. I have a problem with a Rover 25, year of manufacture 2000, it has covered 102,000 miles. Car was bought recently. It started running badly in that it was down on power- top speed was about 55 MPH. The car was also chucking when under acceleration/load. It was ticking over O K, and would rev up perfectly every time - when not under load. The spark plugs were a mixed lot and worn. Popped in a new set of long life spark plugs. The car ran and drove fine, when the plugs were fitted. Car ran beautifully for around a thousand miles or so, but the fault is coming back, down in power and chucking under acceleration /load while being driven. It will idle and rev up perfectly. Plugs were re checked - they are still fine, No obvious leaks, checked all the wiring no cracks, nothing obvious amiss. Any ideas, did any one experience this issue. Its puzzling that the car ran perfectly when the new plugs were fitted, but the issue is back. Any thoughts, suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you.
