starting problem

I have an intermittent problem starting, seems most likely to happen when it is raining, or at least damp - but not always.



What happens is when i turn the key to start, nothing happens at all. no noise, nothing. it just fails to start. can happen quite a few times until it will finally start. On one occasion only i noticed the starter fired up fine once and then immediately died off.



Does anyone have any ideas on what could be the cause and what would be the best way to rule the options out at all please?
