TF engine options...
I've just gotten word from the engineering works that my 160VVC crank is shot. The block doesn't look too good either. So as a minimum I need to replace these 2 items. But this leads to some questions:
Are all 1.8 cranks, rods and blocks the same? There are very few MG Rovers around here (I'm in South Africa) but quite a few Freelenders (120hp) so I could potentially source Freelander stuff. I know the VVC has different pistons and I assume the turbo has too.
I have been offered a 1.8 turbo K. Same questions as above for the subassembly, also, has anyone dropped this lump into a TF? I'm tempted to go this route as it is a factory engineered combination so all I need to do is repackage it a little and come up with an intercooling solution.
Somebody told me the 4 cylinder K series was used by Kia. There are a lot of Kias on the road here but I cannot find any info about this. Seems like the KV6 was used but no mention of the 4 cyl.
Can anyone give me an indication of availability and pricing of decent used or recon 160VVC motors in the UK? I may end up importing.
