Another thread about this ZS. I'm getting a bad feeling about this car.
So straight off the bat, I'm young and naive. Lets just get that out in the open.
I've owned it a couple of weeks now and have been underneath it a couple of times to do some rust treatment and I'm not liking what I see under there. As I've stated in another thread, the fuel tank needs replacing and generally I'm just surprised at how bad the rust can be compared to the old 220D that it is replacing (Project Drive, argh).
I've now seen for myself that it needs at least a few things doing before it can pass another MOT (due in May, argh why did I buy this thing). CV boot gone on nearside, flexi pipe blowing (and actually the exhaust system in general doesn't look like its got very long left), front tyres wearing more on inner treads due to (I think) tired springs effecting camber, not sure if the aforementioned fuel tank will fail the MOT yet but its definitely not in the plus column.
On top of these things I've got a host of new, small dark patches coming up on the driveway. I don't think I'm losing that much oil but its not exactly inspiring confidence. I haven't taken the drip tray off yet to look more closely but I think I've got a modest leak somewhere around the turbo.
On the plus side the only things that got a mention for advisories on the last MOT were that the rear brake pads were getting thin (still in that condition, car barely did any miles over the last year it seems), so maybe its not all as bad as I fear.
How would you fine fellows proceed? Do I do all the work, then take it for an MOT and hope for the best? Or do I have a Rover/MG expert look at it sooner rather than later and tell me if I'm flogging a dead horse and avoid sinking anymore money into this thing?
Cheers guys.
