Electronics/central locking issue?
Hi,
I had some work done to the car today and it will obviously go back to the guys tomorrow to have a look at it but just in case it is something that I can have a look at tonight....
- Fitted new head unit and speakers. Including amplifier connected straight to the battery. This was done by specialists.
I picked up the car earlier today and everything was fine. I didn't spot something unusual. On my way back I stopped at Heathrow to pick up my wife. While I was killing some time in the car parking I started fiddling around with the head unit. Nothing unusual. I connected my phone via bluetooth, played some music, everything was fine. I then removed the faceplate of the unit just to see how it is done (the unit is new) and then I plugged it back in. I didn't switch it on and left for the arrivals lounge.
When we got back and I was about to do the TADA thing the unit did not switch on. It just refuses to switch on. Dashboard lights are fine and we drove back from Heathrow to central London just fine. Any ideas? Some hints below because now I noticed that something is funny with the central locking.
I had the car parked but unlocked. I went to the boot to pick up the radio unit's manual. I pressed the boot eject button in the FOB and the boot wouldn't open. I had to use the key to open it.
When I lock the car using the FOB the car's horn does one short beep when the central locking gets activated. It didn't do that before.
When the car is locked the boot opens using the FOB but the also sets the alarm and I have to press the unlock button on the FOB to switch the alarm off. It didn't do that before.
Is some radio anti-thief mechanism activated? What is going on? ECU? Wiring? Why is the radio not working after I removed the faceplate and put it back in?
Thanks!
