MPG calculation ... I'm impressed :)

I recently started a new job with about a 50 mile commute. The F is my daily drive (my only car) and I was looking at getting something that uses a little less petrol. The Smart Roadster had been suggested - I heard its supposed to be fun and frugal at about 50mpg.

I decided to do a consumption test on my F. Here are the rough figures for a tank full:

418 miles - 43 litres - which gives approx. 44 mpg.

I'm impressed.

Mind you, the vast majority of the journey is on free flowing motorway where I drive like my maiden aunt - between 55 and 65 mph.
