Rover 45 Hand Brake Adjustment (Rear Calipers)s
Rover 45 Hand Brake Adjustment (Rear Calipers)s
I need some advice on how the adjust the hand brake on my Rover 45 1.8L.
The Rover failed the MOT due to hand brake inefficiency and the rear caliper (left side) was sticking. In response to the MOT failure, I did the following:
Replaced both rear calipers
Thoroughly bled both calipers more times than I can count
Replaced the rear brake pads
Inspected the stainless steel shims (all were in good condition)
Inspected the slide rails (they moved freely)
Replaced both brake discs
When I lift the hand brake one click, the driver side rear caliper grabs the disk and holds firm. However the passenger rear caliper does not grab the disc. I inspected the hand brake compensator and it looks at though both cables are being pulled at an equal distance. I also inspected the cable position at each caliper and the cables appear to be in the same postion on both. I ensured the right rear caliper piston was adjusted so it made contact with the brake pad.
The hand brake must be lifted half way for the right rear caliper to bite and hold the disc firm.
I cannot understand why left caliper grabs and holds firm before the right caliper.
Any suggestions on how to correct the problem?
