MGF performance

Hey, I’m new to the whole MGF ownership stuff. I’ve just bought a 1998 MGF 1.8mpi with 85000 miles on the clock, the power is great once you get it going, but a bit sluggish off the mark. After trying a few 0-60 tests on a nice flat, straight road, its coming out at 11.8 seconds. Ive tried various amounts of revs to pull away and am taking it up to around 5500rpm and changing up.

It is due a service, but surely, changing the oil & filter, air filter and plugs will not make up the 3.3 seconds that it ran at new. I know it will not run exact 8.5secs at the age its at, but surely 9.5 must be achievable without going down the Induction Kit or performance exhaust route.

Ive had old cars before and got within 0.5sec of original 0-60 times without performance parts.

Any advice gladly taken….
