Injector pump tentioner

Hi!

Its time to change cam and injector pump belts and tentioners.
My car is a ZR with manual tentioner on the injector pump. Can I replace it with a automatic tentioner and there will be any advantages to do it?
I think first L series used a automatic tentioner and for some reason became "downgraded" to manual tentioner. Any good reason why?
