Alternator Fault

Hi, I'm having an issue with my 1.4 25.



Yesterday I was driving down the motorway when my radio stopped working (flickering on and off!), shortly followed by all the dials dying on me! I found that the fuel pump started to whine reasonably loudly. I got it home and turned on the indicator which killed the engine and tried to start it again and it failed to start. Everything pointed to a dead battery!



I bought a cheap battery from Eurocarparts to check if it was the battery and it started fine with no issues, but the same thing happened again!! I started it up with the charged battery and found that it was idling about 1500rpm (supposedly!) and if I tried to keep the revs constant at 3000 it fluctuated between 2750 and 3250. I'm getting 12.2v out the alternator which makes me think that is at fault. Am I correct or could it be something else?
