rover 25 power lose.

Can anyone help I have a rover 25 that's losing power . I havey foot on the excelerater but the car keeps losing power I have to put my foot full to the floor just to get power back . I have noticed that theirs a bang from the engine before power comes back but as soon as I take my foot of the power the car starts to struggle and lose power again. It does this mostly if driving below 50mph and it do's it more when I come to a stop for traffic lights or round abouts . I can't get power straight away I have to wait the click (bang) before power comes back. Can anyone advise on this or can you recommend a fault code reader for rover 25 as iv been to garages about this and they all say they don't have fault code readers for rover 25's thanks
