EGR question...might be really stupid

I understand that a lot of people blank the EGR on their derv to stop the (oxygen starved) exhaust gases being passed back into the engine, to increase the oxygen saturation or whatever...my question is this, and forgive me if i'm being a complete moron:

Rather than blanking the EGR, couldn't the intake from the exhaust be blanked, and the feed (that would usually be pulling exhaust gases) be redirected to pull in clean air?



Would this not allow more "clean" air to enter the engine than just blanking the intake and/or disabling the EGR?
