Odd size brake callipers!

Hi all,

SWMBO reported a 'grinding' noise from the N/S rear of her ZT-T yesterday, which following the recent demise of the N/S front wheel bearing I immediately thought would be the rear going in sympathy....

So this afternoon, had the wheel off to find nothing wrong identifiable with the bearing but the outer brake pad was hanging on to the calliper slides by it's fingernails! The pad still has loads of life in it (approx 10mm)

Thinking perhaps that the calliper slide pins were seized, I whipped the calliper off to find that the inside pad was in the same good condition. Then I realised! I've seen this before on my 180 where someone had fitted unvented discs to the wider vented type callipers, resulting in the outside pad dropping off the slide rails. Easy fix thought I; new discs and sorted.

Then I find that the O/S calliper has a single disc as well, BUT also an unvented type calliper!!!

So; what's for the best here? Someone (Not me honest!) has clearly changed one calliper at some point in the car's life and we've ended up with a mismatched pair.

Do I buy a pair of vented discs but only put the one on to match the wider calliper, do I change one whole calliper to make a matched pair or what?

Your thoughts please?
