Immobiliser/EKA problem

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry, I know there are multiple threads with this but there seems like some conflicting info floating about and I wanted to be sure...

Got trouble with my 52 plate R25. Fob stopped working properly but can still get the car to start by doing the trick of refitting the fob battery, unlocking the car with the key, hitting LOCK 4-8 times until it locks, then getting inside and deactivating the immobiliser by pressing LOCK when it sounds off on ignition.

Today I tried getting my EKA code from the MG Rover Codes website (IRC ltd). Having trouble entering the code successfully - I am using the method here:

All I get is either a beep, which I suspect means I have entered it incorrectly, or nothing happens.

Assuming my EKA is correct (fingers crossed), what should I be doing and what should I look out for - I.e should the immobiliser red LED stop blinking immediately, or should it stop blinking only after I have left it for however long is required?
