Oil smearing in coolant tank
Oil smearing in coolant tank
I bought my MG ZR 105 in August last year with a known HGF. The radiator had split and coolant allowed to run empty. Replaced radiator, skimmed head, replaced HG with the cheap ebay MLS gasket and changed all seals. This gasket failed to seal correctly (low compression) so I replaced with KAMAX bolts and an elastomer gasket from Rimmer Bros (LVB000321). This was around 8k miles ago.
I noticed some exhaust steaming yesterday in the cold weather, checked the coolant which was a little below minimum, with a slight smearing of oil.
Compression tested cold - 175, 180, 180, 155
Plugs 1, 2 and 3 had a small reddish tinge on the insulator
Exhaust has the sweet coolant smell
No sign of mayo in the oil
No sign of external coolant leak
Is this likely to be an IMG failure? I'm hoping the oil smearing is just washed out remenants of the old failure from the heater core.
Thanks all
