EODB Reader

I have a 2001 1.6 r45, the ecu has EODB printed on it.

I have bought a Bluetooth reader, connected it, but when trying to read on my phone (via torque) I get ecu connection error. Am I correct in thinking it 'should' be compatible?

As a test, i plugged the reader into my mk2 focus, and it worked and read perfectly.
