no alt belt, safe to drive to garage?

I bought my old Vi back which now has a seized alternator, I've sourced a replacement and new belt but the car didn't come with the wheel locking nut so it has to go to the garage to get it cut off. Does the belt run anything like the water pump or is it safe to run on battery charge alone for a short distance, obviously using minimal electrics.
