KV6 cam belt change??
KV6 cam belt change??
Hi Folks,
half way through this and trying to get my head around a V6 cam belt change using the timing tools, done the small belts without any dramas, the thing I'm puzzled about is the main belt. All I've read, and the Rover video too, show the two inlet pulleys rotating towards one another when the main belt is removed, these are then moved back by fitting the two timing tools, however to my way of thinking will the cams not simply return towards one another when you undo the the pulley bolts?, and in the Rover video rotating the inlet pulley clockwise to fit the belt would seem to exaggerate the offset from the original position.
I know I could simply leave both inlet pulleys bolted to their respective cams and keep the current timing, but it would be nice if I could re-set the timing "by the book"so to speak, also I seem to remember 1955Diesel saying that this may lead to incorrect tension on the rear inlet pulley.
I would be grateful if anyone could suggest where I'm going wrong in my thinking, at the moment the belt and the engine are still attached to one another!!
Cheers Rob
