Hello forum folk, I`m after a 416 sli tourer tailgate catch mechanism? Mine has stopped locking and the piece of string I would normally use for keeping my trousers up is fast deteriorating! Anyone got one or would know where I could source one please?

Rover 25 1.4 IS 2001 (51 plate)

Hi all, it's been a while since I've been active on the forum. Unfortunately my return is because I'm selling my beloved Rover. It's done me well for 9 years but I'm in need of a "family" car and she doesn't fit the bill!

The details are as follows:

Rover 25 1.4 Impression S 2001 (51 plate) Gold
Low mileage for it’s age @ 71,000 miles
MOT until mid December 2017
Last serviced in December - serviced every year without fail
Family owned car from 1 year old
Full leather interior
Standard 15” alloys (not the black ones in the pictures, I'm yet to change the wheels over)
Recent new exhaust and driveshaft gaiters

The modifications:
ZR springs and shocks
52mm throttle body
ZR spoiler
Angel eye headlights
‘Lexus’ style rear lights
Retro-fitted front fog lights
Sony head unit, Vibe amplifier and Vibe Black Air component speakers - currently no sound playing. When going over a speedbump the sound stopped leading me to think a wire has come loose.
Tinted rear windows

Spare parts:
Original R25 spoiler
Original R25 headlights
Original R25 rear lights

There are a few customisations that won’t be to everyone’s taste eg sprayed some of the dash white. The front grill is also a black ZR grill as someone nicked mine when I lived in Pompey…

The car had HGF at 45,000 miles. This was repaired and replaced with the newer style head gasket, new bolts etc.

The are minor cosmetic scuffs and scrapes here and there, certainly no major body damage. Rust free as far as I can tell without being able to have the car up in the air. Headlining is starting to sag on the passengers side.

I'd love for it to go to someone off the forum, as a project or whatever I know it'd be looked after. Asking for £500, cheers.

MG ZS Brake master cylinder

Hey guys

Brake master cylinder went in the MG ZS 180 the other day, and I'm struggling to find a replacement.

Part number is SJJ100390. Rimmers state no longer available, same with local xpart dealer. All of the motor factors do not list. There are some on ebay under the part finder for 'MG ZS 180', but they have different part numbers.

Can anyone tell me what other part numbers or MG/Rover models may be interchangeable?

I'm trying to avoid using a second hand part, and in any event I can't find a 180 in the local scrappies anyway.

Many thanks

still mis-firing/rough idle and shudder

recently posted thread about zs+ with loss of power, rough idle and shuddering. Had ht leads , coils and spark plugs checked-all ok. Replaced spark plugs anyway. Compression test and cylinder leakage test done-all ok. Timing belt alignment and fuel delivery-all ok. I changed fuel filter anyways as she has just passed 60 000 miles! error code came PO300 -random/multiple misfire and fuel system-OL?
Tried doing Throttle reset from advice given from forum members- no change. she idles at 1194 rpm and the pre-cat starts glowing super red after a few mins after starting ignition.
Any advice or thoughts will be appriciated!

Parking Ticket

If you have the ticket then no reason why you shouldn't dispute the fine. If you took photos of your dash before moving the ticket then even better because the warden probably did the same and they have they will have the photos to prove it I believe. Be polite with them and chances are they will cancel it. I had a similar situation when I bought the car, parked on a residents bay, I put the parking permit on the dash, shut the door and the permit landed on the floor without me noticing it. I ended up with a fine. The council cancelled it when I told them what happened.

Fuel filter question

My MGF still won't start, but I have eliminated most things. I am getting a spark and if I squirt easy start into the throttle body the car fires. So I am going for a fuel issue. I have jumpered the imobilizer button. I originally thought the fuel pump wasn't working but it sounded like it might have this afternoon.
It feels like a fuel issue, so I have a filter question or two. Is the input pipe the lower one? I assumed it used gravity so the fuel went in the top, but tracking the pipe from the fuel pump goes to the lower connection. Secondly if the filter was blocked, how would I check and can it be cleaned? I know they aren't expensive, but I would need to import one.
I have a jump pack, can I power the fuel pump from that to test, if so how would I do that?

Thanks for any help.

James

Starting problem

I have been having a problem with my newly acquired 160 ZR.
When trying to start the car, the key would turn & the dash lights illuminate but sometimes would not turn over the engine.
Checked the battery voltage which showed 12.2v, so that was ok.
Next was to check battery earth - it was rusted solid
After a clean up, I have had no more problems starting

Parking Ticket

I parked my MGTF in an area for two hours (Max) at 6.55pm when I returned at 8.55pm I found a ticket on my windscreen. When I got home and looked at the ticket it was for not paying for a ticket. I paid two pounds for a ticket and put it to the right of the instrument panel it had slipped down slightly but was still readable (If one bothered to look) I have objected on the internet and found that the traffic warden said he viewed the car from 8.28-8.33 Viewing what because he never looked at my ticket his photos show mainly the car and a photo from the passenger side across the dash the ticket was behind the hump of the instrument panel. What chance do you think I have. There is an offence of not showing a ticket but I have sent my own photos to show it was on the dash. I also added that not many surfaces are level and this ticket has no glue so cannot be stuck on the glass. that is not my fault.

Thinking about getting an MG3: Questions!

Ok, I'm an 'old geeza' compared to most MG3 drivers, I guess. I've owned a number of MG's (including a TF 'summer car' currently).

I do a 60 mile a day round trip to work, so needed to find something comfortable and economical. Three years ago, I pretty much dismissed the MG3 as I wasn't too impressed with the MPG figures I was hearing, so for my daily drive I bought a top of the range Hyundai i10 with all extras added. Don't laugh, it's a great little car and does what it says on the tin.

The only thing is, I'm getting bored of it and thinking about a change.

Is it worth looking again at the MG3 again? I've looked at the MG website and configured a nice Style as per pic below

What's the best fuel consumption you can expect in the real world? Can you get it anywhere near the 50 mpg I consistently get from the Hyundai?

What's it like as a day to day drive?

Any reliability issues?

Anything else worth knowing?

Hope you guys can help!

Cheers
Mike

Rover 25 1.4 flywheel sizes

Evening all -

Currently helping out a mate whose 53 plate 25 1.4 has suffered engine failure.

Decided the easiest way was to replace the engine, as it had holed pistons 1 and 4 due to HG failure.

I bought a Y plate 25 1.4 and was going to swap the engine and box as a unit, but being a 53 plate his car has the Later IB5 box. I've mated his box to the earlier engine, but the starter motor isn't engaging the flywheel.

On inspection the flywheel on the older engine looks to be smaller than the one fitted to the 53 plate car, so obviously it won't start! I did check the clutch before bolting it all up, but didn't think to check to see if the flywheels were different!

Can anyone confirm this is the case? IE difference in flywheel size between R65 and IB5 boxed cars?

Many thanks

Antony

UnhappyMGF wont start

Hi to all, we parked up the mgf at xmas, went to bring it out of hibernation and it wont start and alternator was siezed, so, fitted new battery, new coil, new fob battery, checked fuel pump and fuel, checked for spark checked fuses, checked inertia switch and immobiliser seems to turn off when the jingle stops and finally checked cam belt and timing marks were all lined up as they should be, engine turns over fine but it wont fire up, we tried squirting easystart down its throat to no avail, didnt even kick
any ideas cos ive ran out of them cheers Andrew.

Oh the shame. Had to call the AA out for the first time in fifty eight years.

Yes, and this is why. Fatigue fracture Radiator Top Hose. :~

Had that happen three times now in the past three years of ZT 1.8t ownership. Previously able to self sufficient sort it. Not this last time though and my first experience of using the AA was a pleasant one. Good service by the AA Guy who used to work for MG-Rover. Been with AA for eleven years since. We had a good interesting chat on the way home with my ZT on the Dolly.

They appear to let go along the Manufacturing Process Seams in their construction. One let go simply because the hose clip had been tightened more than necessary biting into the rubber in previous ownership. So it was a matter of time before that let go.

Here's two of the fractured worn out hoses :~

And two spare replacements I made up earlier ... today:~

I plan to keep one spare in each of the ZTs I use. That should help keep the well known Law of Zod at bay.

Have to keep in mind all these hoses are now at least twelve years old. Located directly above the very hot Turbocharger, in those years they are subjected to many thousands of Hot-Cold-Hot temperature cycles under high cooling system pressures. Sadly, nothing lasts forever.

On both occasions when that top hose let go, coolant was forced under pressure directly onto that very hot Turbocharger. Cue lots and lots of steam like an old Steam Locomotive in dire need of of its 500,000 mile overhaul...

All part of life's rich wossname..

Compression Test - 1.8i 135

Compression Test - 1.8i 135

Ok i've done a quick compression test on the engine to see if there's anything amiss.

The figures I got were as follows listed in BAR(max)

Cyl1: 13.5
Cly2: 13.5
Cyl3: 14.0
Cyl4: 12.5

The tolerance listed by Rover should be within 1.5 BAR of each other which is JUST about getting away with it.

Testing Cyl4 with a bit of 5w30 oil I got the pressure to shoot up to 17BAR so I suspect it is just general wear on the rings and liners causing blow by.

Do these figures match up with what other people have come across or does anyone WITH ACTUAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE have any insight to anything I should be aware of.

There hasn't been any symptoms of HGF since driving this car in the last 1000 miles besides a separate overheating issue that is now resolved.

I'm just wary of what the heat might have done to Cyl4 as it's often the weakest one on the gasket.

Wheel bearings

Hi all
I don't know if it is just bad luck but my mot in 2015 was a fail thanks to a duff wheel bearing which in turn had damaged the hub so bearing AND hub to replace £60 for the parts. Come 2016 the same again failed wheel bearing + damaged hub and again £60. So being a good christian [tight ] I thought it is obviously cheaper to replace the wheel bearings on the 2 other wheels £30 before this years mot
So replace your bearings now @£15 x4 or pay £55 x 4 for hubs also

Rover 200 series modification

Hello. How do you do? Sorry for my english, its not my native language.
I`m searching information about rover 200 series models in educational purposes.
All what i know are taken from rimmerbros site.
And my question is about 6 letter of VIN.
For example - SARRF(?) etc.
This letter about modification and its not completly clear for me.

Ok. What does it mean?

The 6th letter represents the Class of vehicle eg:
C = 200 BRM -
No questions. Its just rover 200 with VVC 145hp engine

D = Streetwise (RO)
I have streetwise, but it has K letter, or R1. Whats RO class? Which differences between R1?

H = 200, 214i, 220D (CO)
????

J = 200 (S2)
????

K = Streetwise (R1)

Same letter as mine VIN. Dont know differences between RO
L = MG (M2)
? MG ZR?

M = 200, 214Si, 216Si, 220SD, 220SKi, 200 (C1)
???
N = 200 (TL 3.1)
???

P = Streetwise (R2)

??? Same question about RO

W = 200Vi, 200 (S1)
???

X = MG (MO)

MG ZR???

Y = 200, 216SLi, 216Si (LHD), 220SDi (LHD), 200 (Y2)
???

Z = 200 (C3)

???

Do you know differences between letters, or maybe you know where can i get this information?

Thx for replies.

Rover 620 sli auto

Well after nearly 5 years of owing my 620 2.0.auto, i think its time to send off to rest at scrap yard, Must say was a great buy, never failed to start, never failed an mot, since ive had it, tell a lie a rear break light bulb was out on one, with just 99,000 miles it still runs great, at last MOT he was impressed how solid car was underneath

so what has it cost me in 5 years, 2 new rear calipers to fix handbrake issues, rear discs, 2 new front wishbone and track rod ends, new rad recently plus i serviced it every year before MOT, so plugs filters oil, pads, exhaust parts and tyers and 3 electric Ariel inserts LOL blood car wash. Air conditioning has never work and never bothered to find out why. and i fitted a new battery a few years back, just as a precaution as i start work at 3 am every morning

was a fantastic buy at time with just 75000 miles at £400 5 years ago, im sure would go on for many more miles, But got to stage where had to make a decision, car tax was due, needed 2 tyres, front new exhaust flex pipe needed fitting been in boot for months, fan belt started to squeal a few weeks back and im such a pig when it comes to cars, very rearly wash cant member last time it was hovered, has usal minor rust to rear wheel arches above bumper, picked up a few dents, thought it was simpler to buy new car than clean.

So scrap man will give me £100 as well , its served me well, best bit was all those people that said Rovers are crap, My Honda rover served me faultlessly.

Scrapyard visits ... one of my old projects has been terminated.

Five years ago on impulse I bought a tidy Rover 25 with suspect "They all do that". Soon fixed it and used it for a year or so until the next project came along.

Last week, my son phoned me to tell me the car has turned up in a local scrapyard and he saw it soon after arrival before the parts vultures descended. Another p/x taken in by the local Arthur Daley used car dealers who no longer see old cars as nice little earners. My son was one of those parts vultures and as the car had good alloy wheels in the same style as those on his Rover 25, with good tyres, he removed two and was delighted with the price ... twenty quid each. Bargain. They have cleaned up well.

Needing something from an MG ZS there, I went along yesterday and saw the sad little Rover 25.... missing lots of stuff including the rear hatch door. Good that it will keep other cars going. The engine was a real gem... However that was four years ago. Here is the car:~

I needed a spare 17" Straight Alloy Wheel for my MG ZS. That car came without even a space saver when I picked it up new back in 2003. Just a can of stuff. Fat lot of good that will be for my wife who mainly drives the car. After removing all four Wheels from the scrap MK1 MG ZS, it was lifted by one of the staff using a fork lift, I checked all four wheels and kept the best of the bunch. Here it is after a clean up. :~

Today took it along to the garage I sometimes use and they removed the half worn tyre which looked OK but, you never know. They fitted a UNIROYAL Rainsport 3 205/45 17 XL ( XL = extra load ) to match all the other tyres on the car at a reasonable price. I can rest easy now when she's out and about during adverse weather conditions and slippery road surfaces. Rainsports cope well.

I know my wife presses on a bit sometimes even in less than ideal conditions. Twenty odd years ago, me in my MG Montego and she in her Rover Montego 1.6LX passed me on her way to work in very slippery conditions. I was just another car to her and she did not know it was me when I spoke to her about it later. We had about two inches of snow overnight and my senses through the steering and seat of my pants feedback told me grip was near non-existent that cold morning. She's a competent driver though.

Got a few useful small items for the family cars to. A productive visit both days.

Fresh arrival at the same scrapyard today a MK 2 MG ZS with L-Series. Had four good wheels and tyres... Falkens with decent tread. They will not be there long. Last set I bought like that cost me £80 for all four ... bargain. The single 17" ZS wheel with half worn tyres cost me £15 yesterday. Another bargain. Here's the MK11 ZS :~

I usually check that yard every two weeks for anything interesting particularly for my current project MG ZTs. Sometimes draw a blank but the past two days were worthwhile visits. Only two Rover 75s there and no MG ZTs. Both 75s were V6s. I removed a coolant hose from one V6 as it can be cut to suit as a replacement on my ZT 1.8t with ageing coolant hoses. Nothing lasts forever ... sadly.

MGF/MGTF Speaker Upgrade

Hi all,

after so much time I've taken from the community, I think it is time to give a fraction back.
What follow is not a complete How-to, but more an extension to some very good existing guides out there.

[I'll try to provied pictures shortly]

Hope will be useful

Foundation

1. You need an MGF/TF with T-Bar (rear) spearks along discreet doors tweeters.
a. Not sure if any of the following is applicable to single door speakers.

2. Willing to do job yourself

What you need to buy

Follow a list of items I've bought and was a perfect fit:

1. Main door speaker
a. Cable adapater
NOTE: Don't biu cowl adaptors (I've done it), because probably they will not fit. Is better to re-use the original.

2. Door Tweeter
a. Cable adapter
b. Relaying on the original tweeters, with much better speakers, means having a very muddy and unclear sound, since the OEM can't match the uber-powerful new borthers

3. T-Bar (rear) speekers

4. Fire rated foam

5. J-Weld
6. Door clips

* Door Cable adpaters: the doors speaker and tweeters have a special cable connectors. If you don't want to cut the original cable and juction it with ones coming with the speakers, the listed adaptors are a 0-hassle connection, even for future upgrades.
The good thing is they are quite water-tight and, since the leaking attitude of our cars, is a good thing.

* T-Bar speakers have no speacial adapter, they come with discreet +/- connector. No issue.

* Removing the door cards has proven disruptive for the bottom clips: they remained ... clipped to the metal frame.
With J-Weld I've litterally welded clips holder back to the door card, with much stiffer retention.
I've use a bit of the foam to keep the new clip in place.
This prooved quite good in the end: the doors are so tight on the metal frame that they don't vibrate even with very high volume.

STEPS!
1. CJJ Speaker replacement How-To
a. If door clips holder detach, read above
b. Use speaker cable adapter... and done!
c. Before putting the speakers on the door frame:
** For each speaker cut two strings of adhesive foam
** Attach first strip to the back of the cowl, that will press against the door frame
** Attach the second to the front of the cowl, that will got in contact with the door card
** This will hugely reduce vibration and will stiffen the door card aginst the speark (also eliminating chafing noise while driving)
d. Unscrew tweeter
c. Use tweeter cable adapter and... done!
e. Screw new tweeter in place!
d Connect cables!

2. T-Bar removal
a. removed the T-Bar unscrew the speakers from the boxes
b. Connect cables (no adpter needed)
c. Screw back speakers

Drive!

Dead 2.0D 25 any ideas??

on the way in to work all electrics stopped working i.e no speedo/tacho or lights, indicators lcd display went off too also horn would not work either, so i pulled over turned it off on the key but it kept running (at this point temp guage went thru the roof) so i stalled it. then find out its not overheating, now it wont start not enough juice in battery. Turning the key nothing happens, the alarm starts sounding off whilst investigating (had to pull the wires out of the horn for silence) had immobiliser issues twice but that was making relay noises under the dash, this time however none of that. so i have had jump leads on & nothing also dash/ign lights are flickering when key out. checked fuses all ok checked alternator leads too all ok.

I have just fitted new pads to my 6 using British made EBC ones Part No. DP1219 Front about £32 and Part No. DP1289 rears around £27, these are far better than the original ones only need to touch pedal and you can feel the brakes bite.

Head Gasket

The head gasket has gone on my car, it's has about 46000 miles on it.
Is it worth getting repaired?
Will i have any further problems if i get it repaired? The alternative is i'll scrap it or try and sell it for spares/repairs.
If anyone can get back to me, would be a great help.

Thanks

Is it time to replace Frnt Ball joints

When I drive into my garage the front suspension on the MGF gives a clunk. I have already replaced the front hubs and bearings with new uprated Lotus Elise units about 1000Km ago. My mate said that sounds like ball joints Peter. If that is the case then the MGTF also makes the same clunk driving over the same lip. The garage lip is less than 50mm high. If I am buying balljoints are they upper or lower and is there any difference between the MGF and MGTF ball joints?

Geely favourites to buy 51% stake in Proton and presumably Lotus

Geely favourites to buy 51% stake in Proton and presumably Lotus

China’s Geely Automobile Holdings has emerged the clear leader ahead of France’s Renault and Peugeot parent PSA in the queue of suitors for Malaysia’s Proton carmaker.

That’s great for Geely – the news it is in pole position to buy a 51 per cent controlling stake in the country’s largest carmaker has sent its shares to an all-time high (they have tripled in the last 12 months) and sets up its push into Southeast Asia. If the deal goes through, Geely will get access to Proton’s assembly line in Malaysia, allowing it to ship vehicles tax-free anywhere in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations block, a combined market of 623 million people.

I wouldn't give that article the credit of calling it a review. It's very similar to other 'reviews' on CNC, being amateur and nit-picky to the point of *****iness.

The ZS is the most convincing new MG so far and I am looking forward to seeing it here.

Easy question Re Cold Start Prob -Priming Bulb - How Long Should It Maintain Pressure

Easy question Re Cold Start Prob -Priming Bulb - How Long Should It Maintain Pressure

Hi
MGZS 2.0TD 2004 140,000 miles

After pumping the "Priming Bulb" until it's nice and firm,

- if left for "a while"
- HOW LONG - should it "Stay Firm"
- (Approx) Few mins ? 1/4 hour ? Half an hour?
(read numerous cold start threads on the board - commonly mentioned to "Try Before Starting" but nobody answers the above)
.................................................. ............

Common annoying problem with cold starting
- just began, ie not a slow creeping insidious problem.

Only get it - first cold start of the day - rest of day - fine, starts 1st touch of key.

- battery been drop tested - fine
- power to glow plugs - fine
- the 3 accessible glow plugs physically removed - tested across battery, - bright radiant orange - fine
- no pending codes - read with Sykes P ACR4 - fine
- injector leak off hoses (inc return to pump) changed 6m ago - when did belts. All still tight, dry no splits/perishing/swelling etc
- fuel pipe condition to/from filter fuel fine
- temporarily put gasket sealant round fuel filter bleed bolt (Just to exclude)
- changed timing/aux/fuel pump belts 6m ago - rechecked timing and fuel pump timing - all pins go in perfect easy snug fit - fine
(As just began so to speak, not a creeping problem, and as rechecked - confident not belt stretch or cam sprocket slip)
- assume water temp wouldn't be a great factor, and that prob with sensor - would throw a code up.
- unions all checked at pump and injectors - fine.
- no signs of any leaks around timing/metering solenoids - or blanking bolt " where a useful spindle lock "should be" :o(
.................................................. ..............

Never had cause to check - a potential priming bulb problem
- so no idea if/how long it should maintain pressure
- assume should be a while - as bar actual fuel loss via injectors - it's a closed loop - after fuel filter - ie to pump, leak off back to pump etc.

So just thought I ask - the simple question I started with, to rule it out.

Any other - check - suggestions.... also welcome - in case I've missed anything.

Thanks GAZKAZ

General Motors in talks to sell Vauxhall and Opel marques to Peugeot

When I heard recently that Vauxahall-Opel hadn't made money for 20 years, I wasn't surprised to read this news.
I wonder if SAIC might be tempted to make a counter-offer? How would it impact the Luton van plant as Peugeot has a joint venture with Fiat for vans. Could this closed or be sold to someone like SAIC?

Starter Motor for ZS 180

Hi,

It looks like I need a new starter motor for a ZS 180 (2003). The current one has given up the ghost by the looks of it. Nothing happens when the key is turned (all lights work, battery is tested ok).

Does anyone know whereabouts I can source a reasonably priced working replacement starter motor please?

Thanks.

Xenons, Projectors and Headlamps with Washer Jets definitions.

What's the guidelines here? New learning curve so please bear with me.

My fast becoming my favourite daily driver MG ZT-T 1.8t ( now the heater output is as good as my ZS and 620ti this cold weather ) has Headlamp Washer Jets. Although it had a few months to run on its current MoT when purchased, I paid £25 for a "dummy" MoT as a way of checking and getting to know the car better. Money well spent on any unknown quantity which lets face it, any used car bought has that unknown quality for the new owner irrespective of any Invoices, History or what the vendor or previous owner tells you.

It "failed" on inoperative Headlamp washers. Since fixed and since passed MoT so lives on another twelve months.

Two of my ZTs have Headlamp Washers, these two a MK 1 and MK2, the others do not. All look same to me though except for the wording inside the MK1 lens assembly which you can see on the right here :~

MK2 Lens assembly with jets.

For comparison, here's a MK2 Assembly on an 05 Plate Car without washers.

I'm confused. What's the definitive criteria here? They all look much the same to me except for an additional electrical gizmo behind each assembly on those with washers.

So Xenons, projectors ... all look same to me.

Rover 75 front flexy pipe problems

Hi,

I've been a member for some time, but not really interacted much in the forums. but I need a little help.

I have a 2002 Rover 75 Tourer, (diesel), I'm replacing the O\S\F caliper, as it is seized, as a matter of course I'm also replacing the flexible brake pipe.

Here's where my troubles begin, I've ordered 3 pipe's so far and with the same problem, the fitting into the caliper (pipe end) is different, to the original.

The union on the old pipe differs massively to the new. and I'm concerned that the pipe will not seat correctly in the caliper.

As you can see from the pictures the fitting is different, has anyone come across this before or offer any advise?

for the alternator there are normally a choice of two belts, one for air con equipped cars, one for non air con.

the power steering belts are the same on all petrol k series 25's and ZR's

if you have one local, try Andrew Page car parts, or buy off ebay - those prices you are showing are quite high.

NEW CHRIS KNOTT PRIZE DRAW: Silverstone F1 Grandstand Tickets x2

NEW CHRIS KNOTT PRIZE DRAW: Silverstone F1 Grandstand Tickets x2

Hi,

I'm excited to reveal another prize competition from Chris Knott... one that's for new AND existing customers

We consulted the members of all the car clubs and forums we work with when selecting the prize for Chris Knott's 2017 Spring Prize Draw.

So, the members have spoken - request a Chris Knott Car Insurance quote before close of play on Wednesday 31st May for your chance to WIN 2x grandstand tickets at the 2017 Silverstone F1 Grand Prix.

All you have to do is ask us for a quote and you'll automatically be entered for our draw to win this fantastic prize (worth over £500).

Of course, we're hoping to win something too - you as a new customer! You don't have to purchase cover in order to qualify for the draw, just receive a quote. If our cover, service and price stack up it makes sense for you to switch to the car enthusiasts' specialist.

We can quote about 30 days in advance of your renewal so even if your car insurance isn't due until late June you can still obtain a quote before the deadline.

The GP tickets naturally cover all the events of Race Day - Sunday 16th July 2017 - and we've thrown-in circuit parking for one vehicle too.

HOW TO ENTER...
Either call us (always our preferred method) on 0800 917 2274 and mention this forum's unique quote code,

or

complete contact details at http://ift.tt/1CHbNbZ and we'll call you for the quote details (though we risk missing you and therefore you might not gain entry).

If your car insurance is due soon, pick up the phone for your Chris Knott quote.

Oh, and existing CK clients, you'll automatically gain entry too, if your renewal is due in the timeframe, when we invite your renewal.

best,
Nick

Testimonials
Yet more positive feedback received from car club members in the last few days:

"Just thought I'd say a big thank you to Chris Knott, especially Kathy, for their competitive quote for this year, but more for the speed that everything was done and dusted in. I used to work in the Insurance industry, but they never achieved service levels like this."kentphil1, Briskoda

"Saved about £180 on mine and £35 for my wife, both with superior cover to Admiral and lower excess!"Robbijay, GT86/BRZ Owners Club

"I work in retail and so realise people are quick to criticise and lack in praise when a job is done well. I'd like to say how helpful Daryl White was in renewing my car insurance policy. Within 25 minutes he'd reviewed a quote, called me back, adjusted it and sent new documents! Thoroughly happy with the service I've received, both on this occasion, a previous call on Monday (don't recall the gent's name, sorry) and with yourselves in general, this is exactly how you retain customers!"Rob Harper, Micra Sports Club

SMTC & MG commit to continuous quality improvements through 6 SIGMA methodologies

SMTC & MG commit to continuous quality improvements through 6 SIGMA methodologies

SAIC Motor Technical Centre (SMTC UK), the sister company to MG Motor, has adopted Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), at its Longbridge facility in Birmingham, confirming its commitment to a continuous quality improvement philosophy.

The automotive industry has seen huge benefits through Six Sigma over many years and it continues to play a key role in the continuous improvement strategy for many OEMs and those working in the supply chain.

Several senior managers at SMTC had previous experience of working with Six Sigma to improve processes and solve problems. They saw the opportunity for their relatively young business to apply world-class tools and techniques in a structured and data-driven manner.

Dave Lindley, Managing Director at SMTC-UK said: “We felt that DFSS offered a route and method to improve our business significantly, and being part of a global business, we wanted to develop a programme that could be rolled-out in partnership with our parent company in Shanghai.”

Advocating the benefits of the DFSS method and tools, SMTC-UK worked with its Chinese counterparts to develop a global programme.

One of the primary aims was to become more proactive during the vehicle design process. Dave said: “We’ve got lots of experienced people in the business and we wanted to complement this by embedding a robust data-driven approach”.

In a reactive environment, projects and problems are tackled on an ad-hoc basis and this can lead to misdirected effort and a focus on symptoms instead of root causes. DFSS provides SMTC-UK with a standard toolset that can be used across every project from conception to production. This proactive approach allows innovative and creative new products, to be designed right first time, with minimum cost and minimum lead-time.

A team of more than 250 qualified engineers from SMTC are responsible for the design and development of the MG3 supermini, the new MG GS and other Roewe branded models intended for the domestic market in China. Engineers from SMTC recently welcomed members of the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI), to see how DFSS philosophies had been implemented at Longbridge. Such sharing of best practice is an important part of the SMTC’s culture.

Dave concluded: “We believe DFSS is capable of delivering a shift in the quality of performance, and is one of the tools that will help us achieve our vision to be The Leading Automotive Technical Centre in Europe by 2020.”
