MG ZT CDTI starting problems

Hi folks,

Hope one and all doing fine.

Thinking of buying from EBay a spares or repair MG ZT CDTI Facelift with huge spec 165,000 before another one is broken up for spares. It's the spec has me interested and everything works, car be en well maintained with recent clutch and brakes.

Spoken with owner another enthusiast from the site, lovely chap.

Few mths ago got harder to start from cold, was ok once at running temp. Now it will eventually start but only just, to the point he suspects another battery would be wise as is getting worse, runs fine once at running temp.

Glow plugs changed, new Bosch MAF18 mths ago with synergy II from Rover Ron. HP Pump just changed for reconditioned one, suspect wrong diagnosis by garage that undertook the work, problem still apparent. Not had a T4 diagnostic done.

I suspect faulty fuel injectors. Would folk agree, any idea how much I should expect to say get all x4 done.

Before I do that anyone know of a T4 chap near Blackpool just to confirm is injectors and anyone local to me you can recommend to carry out work.

Any advice or thoughts would be much appreciated.

Take care

Steve

Power steering pump leaks?

Hi,

Sorry to ask yet another question, but what I think is the power steering pump (top left of the front bank (drivers side)) does seem to be quite wet.

Has anyone else had any issues with the pump leaking, or any suggestions as to where or why it would leak? I can't really tell where the fluid is coming from.

Thanks!

Hi, got a 1.4 impression S with radio controls on steering wheel, the problem is someone has fitted a different radio and cut the plugs off, been to the scrap yard and got the wiring loom from a 45 with wheel controls, but the wiring in the car does not match the one from the scrap yard, the car does not have the pink and white wires from the wheel, so the question is did they change the wiring?

Waxoyl and Coolant Pipes...

Hi guys :broon:

I am going to get the underside of the car waxoil'd next week, as I was advised a bit of surface rust is starting to appear when it got some work done in March.

I presume they will need to powerwash the underside, then wire brush the existing rust, then spray with waxoyl?

My question is what about the stainless steel coolant pipes I had put on in March? Will they waxoil over them too, or is it better to leave them be?

Thanks guys...

Also, what would you expect to pay for this?

Head lamp coating problem

So, I did a stupid thing...

Whilst cleaning tar and overpaint off my bodywork with paraffin, I managed to smear some on my headlamp units.

Do not do this. Next day the surface was cloudy and crazed where the paraffin had gone.

Easy enough to rectify I thought - T-cut it back to clear. That made no impression. Nor did 1500 wet and dry, nor 600, nor 400. Finally, with 280 grade I was getting somewhere. All this is very tedious of course.

The trouble is, I could see a faint line developing where I was obviously removing some sort of surface coating. Reading around, I think this is the UV coating.

Anyway, I only did part of the headlamp plastic, then went back up the wet and dry grades and finally T-cut it. Although most of the crazing is gone (needs a second go really) I can still see where I've removed this UV coating.

Q: Is this important? I presume this protects the polycarbonate?

Can I get a product to replace the UV coating if it is important?

Has anyone applied a sort of surface coating product which renders crazing invisible, whilst not actually abrading it away (sort of 'wetting' it).

Having seen the cost of new headlamp assemblies, I am not inclined to replace them...

Impact of losing keys?

I am planning on starting the work on my old MOT failure VVC, its been sat for about 6 months and as the weather is getting better I feel its playtime.

Problem is, I have no idea where the keys are, I have turned the house upside down looking for them but they are nowhere to be found.

Now thankfully when I put the car under the tarp I left it unlocked so I can at least access the cockpit and the battery was also disconnected.

So...I am wondering, what are the implications of replacing things, for example:

Ignition Barrel - can I just replace the barrel chamber or do I have to replace the whole thing? if so how easy is this to do, are there any impacts on the ECU?

Alarm/imobiliser - Can I lock the car by the key and not have to worry about the alarm activating/deactivating, engine not starting?

Alarm fob - On a quick google I understand I can buy a fob of the bay and then take it to be programmed by an Xparts supplier, is there anything else I need to consider?

Boot lock/Petrol cap - How the hell do I replace these without the original keys? How do I access them

Any help or thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated as until I can sort this there is no real point doing anything else.

And I appreciate the security implications of such a post so if you have answers rather than a post a pm would help just as much.

Thanks in advance.

Exhaust Manifold Smoking

I've just got back to working on the car after cleaning out the tappets and what not. Whiteish smoke comes off of the exhaust manifold, around the area that it goes into the flexi section once the exhaust is hot after a few minutes.

There's no noticeable smoke coming out of the tailpipes and I can't feel anything when I put my hand around where the smoke appears to be coming from with the engine running before it starts smoking. There are no oil leaks anywhere that I can find. I wiped everything clean near the manifold and there's still no oil there or any on the manifold.

Should I just take it out for a spin to see if the smoke clears up? Could just be some that I spilled when I was taking the cam carrier off or something.

ZS Weight Reduction

I'm thinking of removing a few kg from the ZS, however it's a road car so it must remain as full interior including audio and cannot be "stripped out" so have to be a bit more strategic about it.

A few ideas I've had so far...

- Remove sun roof and replace with a fibreglass or carbon fibre bung. This would save almost 20kg total with all the mechanism and being right at the top of the car it would help to lower the centre of gravity as well. Simply bond a panel in place of the sun roof and then replace roof lining for one from a non sun roof model.

- Air con, I've asked about this before but was only given answers along the lines of "don't bother" or "why would you want to remove it?" the answer is simple a typical air con system can weigh up to 25kg!

- Spare wheel, a lot of modern cars don't even come with one, it can easily be put back in for long journeys, or simply replace with one of the "spare tyre in a spray can" type products. Save around 10kg.

Already that's a potential saving of around 50+ kg.

Another potential weight saving would be light weight wheels but in my case that would be off set slightly by the added weight of the bigger brakes that I have just fitted. Reducing unsprung weight is said to be very worthwhile though so is certainly worth considering.

Anyone else got any ideas?

Taxing online

Hi Guys..well I think I have just caught up with technology.

I have just taxed my R75 online and it was a strange experience... Not just for the reasons of not having to que at the post office clutching my MOT and Insurance certificates and not being handed a tax disc which I usually stay up till 12.00 am to put in the windscreen holder on the first of the month.....well im not that bad really.

Anyway.

So I now have an e-mail confirmation of the fact my car is now taxed and that a tax disc is being sent...but tomorow for the first time in 32 years I will be driving a car on public roads without displaying a valid tax disc.

I will still feel at the back of my mind that it is wrong ...if a little bit 'breaking the law'.

So when did the law on 'displaying a valid tax disc change then'...I still instinctivly want to put a cardboard disc with TAX APPLIED FOR in the holder....just like the 70's!

I am fully aware of ANPR and Police technology etc ...but it is still a little strange.

Front passenger door not unlocking. '02 cdti.

Afternoon Everyone,

this problem has only just presented itself: unlock car via blipper and all doors unlock except front passenger side. I can open the door by reaching through and using the interior handle, but that's it. Have tried lubing to no avail.

Have now taken the door panel and foam off the door but am not really any the wiser. The only other thing I can say is that the plunger which protrudes through the top of the door panel is held (feels like spring loaded) into the down (locked) position. If I pull it up, it will allow the door to open, but once released, immediately goes back to the 'locked' position.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Nothing has been touched in that area since, but I have now tried to move the gear stick with the linkages connected and it is stuck. I disconnected the linkage to find that the shifter rod would not move, I think it is stuck as far in as it goes. Any ideas why it's stuck or how I can fix it?

Broken spring?

Well, now that my cooling issue seems to be resolved (130 miles including some reasonably long queues to sit in), I've found a lovely new issue to fix!

I had to drive about a mile down a Forestry Commission track at the weekend. Seemed ok on the way down, but 2 days later when I started back up again there was a horrible grating noise. Even once I got back on the tarmac there was a sort of rumbly vibration. I'm pretty sure this varied with road speed, but not with engine speed. My suspicion is therefore a broken spring/drop-link etc. I believe I've read that the springs are a bit of a weak point on 75/ZT's, is that correct?

oscilloscope traces /HO2 sensor

Hi All

I was wondering if someone has an instruction for testing the engine management system with a scope.

The reason for this is to find a cause for high CO emission on my old (1996) Rover 416 si. ( It's 0.5 on CO but HC and lamda have passed).

Last year I changed CAT and CO didn't changed much. I 've given up on old mantra: " arrive to MOT test station after driving on dual carriage way - blah- change oxygen sensor , CTS …" without knowing if it helps- usually it doesn’t.

Now, armed with a scope, I have tested oxygen sensor with oscilloscope- and it seems that HO2 sensor produces a reasonable signal with 0.8 V in amplitude and responses correctly, I think, to accelerator pedal - sharp changes of HO2S signal. However, I haven't figured out a way to see how ECU( or ECM) is responding to the HO2sensor signal or I haven't tested how it's working in a close loop with HO2 sensor.

There are no other visible problems- it starts well , idle rpm goes down after warming up, fan on the radiator also kicks in, spark plug are clean with tan-ish colour.

Thanks

How to - Rear compliance bush (n/s)

This is a retrospective guide to changing a rear passenger side compliance bush, as some of you have asked me how I did mine. I changed mine a couple of weeks ago taking only a couple of photos, so I have been out today and taken some more.

Hopefully this guide will help save you some time, it took me 6 hours but I didn’t do things in the same order as below :)

I will assume you can do various jobs along the way, since you are tackling this in the first place. E.g. removing the wheel, brakes , cleaning bolt threads before you try and undo them etc etc...

Step 1) Remove the engine cover. I didn’t do this until I needed to but it gives you better light, so I would do it at the start. It’s not crucial but will help when removing the engine support arm bolts.

Step 2) Use axle stands and remove the rear wheel

Step 3) Remove the brake calliper and disk, this will help when removing the trailing arm.

Step 4) Remove the upper bolt from the drop link.

Step 5) Remove the trailing arm. Start with the 2 bolts at the hub end, they should come out easy.

1 at the top

And 1 at the bottom

Then remove the large bolt going through the bush. This is where I had my first issue. The nut came off easy, but the bolt was stuck in the rubber bush. I had to use a socket extension bar and with my trolley jack, I forced the bolt out from underneath. Yours may come out easy...

From above

From below

Step 6) Now you should be able to remove the trailing arm, without realising you need to remove the brake calliper and disc ;)

Step 7) Remove the engine support arm. You will need to support the engine. I did this using my trolley jack. You only have to take the weight of the left side (nearly forgot this bit lol).

There are 2 bolts at each end and 1 in the middle. The 2 at the rear require the engine cover off and should not cause any issues as they are relatively rust free.

Similarly the one in the middle (engine mount) should come out easy.

Tip – Mark this bolt as I got it mixed up with the bracket bolts, which delayed me at the end.

The other 2 which are essentially holding the bush in place, may cause you problems...

The nearside bolt is the larger of the 2 and is easily accessible, so should come off with no real problems.

The second, which is difficult to see from under the wheel arch is smaller and if rusted (which it will be) will be difficult to remove. Again this is another reason to remove the engine cover, as there is clear access from above.

This nut proved to be the most difficult part of my job. It required constant heat whilst a second person (my dad) loosened it very, very slowly.

Step 8) Now to remove the bush. It will only come out one way, which is from above. Without pictures it is difficult for me to explain. You will think by looking at it, it wont come out.

From memory you need to slide it towards you slightly, then rotate it upwards whilst tapping it from underneath. A bit of giggling and it will come out.

Suprisingly the new one just falls into place without any effort.

Now put everything back in reverse :)

The only thing for me to mention here is that when you replace the large washer (seen below) it will look like it needs to slot into the groves in the bush. It doesn’t, it sits on top of the bush. I had to check this by looking at the offside bush.

I think that covers everything? It’s difficult to remember every detail of the job now...

I hope this helps whoever takes the job on. Feel free to add things that may help further as I have no doubt missed things.

GOOD LUCK!!

Also lastly I would quite like them to come on when you unlock the car, as I believe this would be quite a neat feature! Now I could probably just come off the interior light! However they would just turn off after a while, how would I make them stay on!

Or is there no point as by the time I've got into the car I've flicked the headlights on already, therefore try wouldn't go out?

My IPK swap saga.

I guess I am like any other average Rover 75 owner, always looking for the next mod to do.

I decided I wanted to upgrade my Instrument Pack to a message centre, my excuse being that I needed the digital speed display.

Easy I thought, just buy a second hand unit and put my EEPROM into it, a couple of changes with the help of a BMW scanner and that would be it.

New unit and scanner arrived so set to work.

First step was to connect scanner to original unit and save the IKE settings, no problem there.

Remove unit from car and strip down for access to EEPROM, easy job.

Remove EEPROM from board, I thought it was glued on as it just wouldn't come off, some advice from Phil-T4 got me through that problem.

Next job strip the new unit, taking great care not to damage the ribbon cable for the display.

Removed the EEPROM, quite easy this time, but no markings on it at all, not even a pin 1 mark of any kind, again help from forum put me right.

Soldered original EEPROM onto new board.

Re-assembled unit and fitted to car.

Read EEPROM, all OK, changed a couple of settings and wrote back, arghhhhhh, EEPROM corrupted.

Wrote back original file and everything back as it was, phew.

Tried again, same thing, only this time the original would not write back, I tried many times but to no avail.

After a few days of failed attempts I began to wonder what I could have done wrong, the only thing I could think of was that my soldering was at fault, now I have been soldering components onto circuit boards for many years (as a hobbyist) and never had a problem, but as this was my first attempt with SMD I figured I had better check.

I removed the unit, stripped it down and re-soldered the EEPROM.

Put everything back together and this time it was OK, well almost, my recorded mileage jumped up by over 500,000, since changing the readout to KPH the mileage has gone to -255,000.

My EEPROM is corrupted, probably by my failed attempts to re-program when I had faulty soldered joints.

Currently I have a car I can use and I have a message centre with digital KPH displayed, I do however need a visit for a T4 session to correct the mileage, I am told that it's OK to drive until I can get that done.

So anybody that is contemplating the same, if you are not 100% sure of your soldering skills then leave it too the experts :)

All the way through the saga Phil-T4 has been there to advise me, without him I would have been in big trouble, thanks Phil :)

Well, it looks like it has finally happened.

After several weeks of frustrating airlocks in the radiator and heater coupled with coolant levels rising in the expansion tank, I can now smell combustion gas in the coolant. I have not been losing any coolant but the car overheats on anything more than a 10 mile journey.

So time to bite the bullet and replace the gasket.

I was planning to get this set http://ift.tt/1wZOC6V

Anyone got any views on them - good or bad?

I will not use new bolts unless the old ones are out of spec.

So instead of a relaxing week doing a bit of gardening and watching tennis I get to mess about inside an engine (again!!).

Dowels

Hi all,

I am currently in the process of changing the head gasket on my 2004 MGZR 1.4. The new gasket comes with a pair of steel dowels, however, the block already has steel dowels fitted and I am reluctant to try to change them if this can be avoided having read other posts on here where people have had difficulties in fitting them and in some cases have had to drill the block.

Is changing them essential or can I get away with leaving the original steel dowels in position?

Thanks

So went to take a wheel off today and found that my 19mm socket wouldn't fit over two of the nuts. Used a larger one on one of them and found that the domed bit came away (jammed in the socket) leaving an 18mm nut behind. That came off as you would expect.

Second one wasn't so easy. The domed bit would spin on top of the rest of it, but wouldn't come away, had to destroy it with a chisel and pull the remnants off with pliers!

The nuts that were left behind looked a little corroded, so I would guess that some water got between the cap and the nut, causing the dome to swell.

Smashed in the rear :(

So i get back in a TF 160 - get everything sorted. Every panel refurbed to perfection thanks to MGFCars body shop work.

So when i'm sitting at some traffic lights - you can imagine my anger at someone hitting me up the rear at 25-30mph. Because they sneezed / weren't looking. Whatever.

Either way, i'm distraught. The damage wasn't exceptional considering the impact, needed a new rear bumper, boot lid, some exhaust movement so not sure on that front. But it was still just about drivable. Until, after leaving the scene of the accident, taking a slow left hand bend and a horrific noise, following by the car dropping on the drivers side.

Get out - the rear drivers side wheel has the bodywork resting on it. Something's snapped and i'm not sure what. I can still see the spring intact. Not sure what it is - but can't see without jacking up and with it being something the insurance to deal with i don't want to jack up and cause more damage.

So in a hire car now. I am gutted - and clearly someone is telling me i'm not allowed a TF, after the ordeal with my previous one!

My god I love this car!

As stated in another thread, finally picked up the TF 115 from hiding at my parents today and I am already in love. My wife has a fight on her hands if she wants to drive it.

Have to admit I stalled a couple of times. I found the accelerator quite hard to get used to briefly. And being used to driving an automatic for the last year I slowed about 20 in 5th a couple of times because I forgot I have to changes gears!

But even though its only a 115 it still has a decent get up and go and turns out it has the Scorpion twin-dual exhaust fitted, which I was unaware of and when you floor it I love the sound, particularly 4000rpm up.

Found myself happily driving along at 60 at times on the motorway just enjoying the drive instead of trying to get it over with. And it feels like a go kart compared to the Insignia.

Anyway I need to sleep so I can wake up and go driving. I usually hate driving when there is no destination, but looking forward to it!

Still have A LOT to learn but cant wait.

TL;DR I am in love, Mrs Adam needs to watch out, she is about to lose me for a while.

What a difference a fuel filter makes

I just changed the fuel filter ( bought MG-Rover official filter ) and following the Haynes manual and video on this site, it was very easy. After I got it all installed and primed the motor, we went for a short drive to circulate the fuel.

The car really takes off now. So much more pull happening. Car is very nippy now and feels so responsive. The filter I took out was filthy. Covered in rust. It said Rover - replacement filter. I am not sure if that would have been the original filter from 2000 or not but there is a huge difference in the car now.

I use BP Ultimate as I find it works best for my car. Very very glad I changed it.

I know the later cars (after 2004?) had them fitted as standard, I also remember reading about Brown & Gammons selling the kits, however the only kits I can see on their website are for the MGF/TF.

We are going to be selling the car shortly, and I would not like it if the car in future ran in to problems due to a lazy owner who never lifts the bonnet beint unaware of any coolant loss. HGF? High Pressure in the cooling system.

Hi All,

I recently sold my cousin a ZS I've had sitting on my drive way for around a year without use.

We got it MOT'd etc and all was fine until he called and informed me the engine bay was full of steam, i got there to find the radiator had exploded [very old and weak] so i replaced this with a known good one i had in my store.

Now when attempting to re-fill the coolant and bleed the air through i noticed the water wasn't really going down, So i tried the 'approved' method of holding the revs at 2.5-3k and slowly allow the coolant system to fill, quickly then the water went down, like an airlock moved but the coolant got hot fast. When adding the cap to the bottle all hoses etc pressurised quickly, the coolant turned into steam and when opening the bottle to allow the pressure out almost all of the water was forced out.

Video:

http://ift.tt/UR87Rn

The heaters inside the car still didnt blow hot despite both the inlet and outlet pipes at the bulkhead being hot, both top and bottom hoses on the radiator hot and ALL highly pressurised until the cap was released.

I assume one of the compression rings in the gasket has blown and its applying exhaust gas into the coolant system as soon as revs are applied, before this everything seems fine, it only pressurises when revs are added.

Last weekend’s MG90 event saw the iconic MG marque celebrate its 90th year anniversary at Silverstone circuit last weekend, with a display of historic, current and future MGs, including three concept vehicles.

The MG3 Trophy Championship concept, based on the current MG3 production vehicle platform and created to highlight in-house engineering, design and calibration capabilities by SMTC UK at Longbridge, continues the MG tradition of club racing. Modifications include tuning of the 1.5 litre, 106PS, MG3 engine currently featuring 136Nm torque, to achieve a max power output of 204 BHP (207 PS) and 260Nm of torque. SMTC and MG are both owned by parent company, SAIC Motor; the largest automotive company in China, currently ranked 103rd in the Fortune 500.

The Trophy Championship concept previewed at the MG90 event last weekend in order to gauge potential demand for an MG Trophy race vehicle. Any interest can be raised directly with Adrian via email Adrian.Guyll@saicmotor.co.uk. Passenger and display laps continued throughout the weekend at the Stowe and GP circuit, with the vehicle driven by MG BTCC drivers Jason Plato and Sam Tordoff.

Right straight to the top it has an ABS warning light on the dash 90% of the time, i looked quickly at the wiring on the car and found the drivers side front had a broken wire from the pad sensor so i replaced it and now i have both the abs and the low pad warning light showing although the pads and discs look very good. The car has had rear discs very recently is it possible to think they may have knocked the sensors? I dont currently have a code reader is the best action to get the codes read first? The car also has a fault with the pixles on the dash board computer screen( not the mileage but the large screen) any ideas on best coarse of action? Many thanks

British car sales in Germany up sevenfold in 50 years

According to auto, motor + sport British cars made up 0.2% of West German car registrations in 1963 and 0.6% of German ones in 2013.

I see that in 1963 the West Germans bought 1,271,000 cars and in 2013 the Germans registered 2,950,000.

Therefore, by these figures, only around 2,500 British cars were sold in 1963 but more like 18,000 in 2013.

The German statistics go by home country of the brand (counting Jaguar, Land Rover, Bentley, Rolls Royce, Lotus, Morgan etc as British) so that a Polo from Spain is German but a SEAT model made in Wolfsburg (as they once were) is an import.

While the MINI Countryman (aka Arnie) will count as British and inflate these figures, they are still understated for the Nissans, Toyotas and Hondas made in England - let alone the Opels from Vauxhall!

I was very surprised at this though it's still chickenfeed compared to Britain.

Fiat Chrysler plan to double sales by 2018(!)

EDIT does sums, not "double". Presses for Moddymen.

SOURCE: auto, motor + sport

Fiat boss Sergio Marchionne has announced a new five-year-plan for Fiat Chrysler. Previous plans have frankly been shipments of FAIL - e.g. Lancia sales were due to be high but today the marque is on the verge of disappearing.

Still, he says this time it will be different.

In the plan:

Group sales 2013/2018: 4400k; 7000k:

Jeep 732k; 1900k

Alfa Romeo 74k;400k (!) (very interesting as I think Alfa are a close competitor for MG)

Maserati 15k; 75k...

rover 25 cam sensor issue

Hi. Can anyone advise , I have the same problem yet again when I'm at a low or steady speed the car starts struggling I have to put my foot down more on the excellerator to get more power but when I do that theirs a bang that happens just before the power comes back. I have had the problem now 4 times in the last 12 months each time this happens I take it in and noone ever knows the fault I end up getting someone to ready the ecu but every time they read it the cam sensor never works . I have now had 3 cam sensors fitted in the last 12 months after that's changed the car seems to work fine again but after few weeks the same keeps happening. Can anyone advise what could be making the cam sensors go as the same fault is happening again so I'm assuming the cam sensor as gone again. Something must be making them go as this is the 4th time in last 12 months this parts had to be replaced thanks

Knocking

evening all

I have a knocking sound which is coming from the front wheel area when I turn right. CV joints have been changed but was wondering if it is wheel bearings. I have done the usual checks on moving the wheels when jacked up but no excess movement. I also at times when braking from coming off motorway have an abrasive sound, as if worn pads but these and discs have been changed 2/3 months ago.

any ideas.

New owner

Hi everyone - newbie here.

I have just bought a 2005 MG TF 135 - just fancied a low cost summer car and I love it so far.

As can be expected, there are a few things that could be improved upon but generally it is in good nick and only has 57000 miles on the clock.

What I was hoping for was some general advice about owning an MG TF and perhaps some tips on making it a bit more responsive off the line e.g. change the plugs, air filter, etc and also, the gearbox is a bit 'notchy' - can anything be done there.

Sorry for the ramble, hope to be able to contribute soon.

Bodyshop so far (pics) + advice please!

Well the car is in the bodyshop getting fettled, as you can see below. However, there is some concern over the rear wheel arches on both sides - as ever! Due to the amount of rust, no guarantee of it not reappearing can be given, which I understand fully.

However, and this is where I need the help, can I source a couple of rear quarter panels and just get the bodyshop to cut out an inch above the wheel arches and weld into place?

THey were talking about fabrication of new inner arches. I don't really want to go tinkering with the whole rear quarter panels on either side, if as much for cost as well as structural integrity?

Has anyone done this? Is it indeed feasible? I can source a rear quarter panel (repro) for £195 inc vat.

Many thanks in advance.....

Inspection Cover Bolts

How many do you run with?

I dont have the 3 under the t-bar in. I also have a quite bad rattle and creaking coming from the rear.

Rattles when not moving, creaks when going over bumps/up hills.

Related? Does anyone else run with those 3 not in and have the same problem?

I've tried driving around without the cover on, but bugger me with a spoon handle the engine and exhaust is so loud I cant tell if it makes any difference.

Paint woes

I cant sell her.

Tried too. Got everything sorted, Rus came over and sorted the leak, going in for the scratches to be painted on the boot soon.

Plan was to flog it after. But yesterday I was driving back from an appointment and between her backfiring, stalling and then nearly breaking my back going over the worst road surfacing to exist in this country, I just cant do it.

Might one day get a 160 when I can afford it and swap the nice bits over, needing the power.

ANYWAY

The paint work is getting me down. I treated the hood and the chemicals have come off onto the bodywork, and despite spending 2 hours cleaning the car, I just cant get it off.

It also has black spots on it and swirl marks.

I have a buffer with pads, compound and polish.

Whats the best thing for me to do? Shall I just grab some clay and spend a weekend claying, compounding and polishing then waxing?

Any other tips to make it look its best? I cant afford a repaint, saving for decent tyres.

Great condition for its age just a few minor car park marks on the bodywork but very minor.

3 owners from new.

Next MOT due 28/11/2014,
