Does anyone know where I can get the red plastic fasteners/studs used to hold the rear spoiler onto my 2004 Rover 45 tailgate ?

Ebay offers a lot of the larger yellow ones - which are the right shape, but too large.

Which M.A.F. for Rover 45 2.0td 52 plate?

Which M.A.F. for Rover 45 2.0td 52 plate?

For a Rover 45 2.0td (101) Rimmer Bros told me the MAF Mass Air flow sensor part number was MHK101070 and said the Rover 45 2.0td has a different MAF to all other Rovers. even different to the 200, 25 and 400.

Yet breakers etc seem to want to sell almost any MAF that is suitable for 200, 25, 400 600 etc for the Rover 45 2.0td.

Does anyone know if any part numbers other than MHK101070 are OK to use on the Rover 45 2.0td (101) 52 plate?

One month with my 25 vi

I bought the car on December 29, I travel from Bilbao to Madrid to pick it up, the car only had 63,000 kms.

I can only say that I love the car, the seats are very comfortable, stability in curve is very good, the engine performance seems to me the best, in low revolutions it has a lot of torque, sometimes I think it's a car diesel.

In this month I only changed oil and air and oil filters and the front brake pads

As I said in my presentation post: I love the 200/25/ ZR series, it has the perfect size, not too big like the hatchback nowadays, and I love the design, the perfect balance between sportiness and elegance.

Clicking noise

Clicking noise

There is this quick clicking noise coming from the fuse box area (or thereabouts) when I am driving slowly in traffic. The clicking noise comes and goes, it is not always there. I have never noticed it on the motorway or when going at constant speed, even if it is just 30mph. It only happens when I start-stop 1st-2nd gear tops in traffic, usually after a while, say half way through the journey. Any ideas?

MF TF Bumper screws

Hi there I am new member with a MG TF 2004 and MG ZB 1957. Can anyone let me have the screw specifications of the bumper fixing screws on the MG TF that attach the bumper to the front and rear wheel arches and the front liners total eight number. Mine are well rusted particularly the upper ones on the back wheel arches and I would like to get some stainless steel ones before removal of the existing.

Air filter MG TF

I have bought a new panel air filter for my Tf.

There are not many pictures of this type online. I have included a few with comments.

This photo shows the code number for a TF.

The filter fits the airbox very nicely.

The gause construction in the pleated surface.

The sides and the ends have the length and width measurements moulded into them. If you ever picked one up second hand you would know it would fit.

Old and new filters together from the top. There is a lot of bleeding of sealant around the old filter.

Old and new filters from the bottom. The area that catches the dust, dirt and particles.
The old filter has a lighter line where the inner plastic tube of the intake hose touches. The new filter is thinner in depth so this will not happen.

The old filter has caught 'fluff' in the folds. This however could be restrictive to air flow. It was like this in every fold.

I hadn't realised how easy it is to change your own tyres.

If you get one of the £40/£50 walk-around tyre changing tools, they have a bead breaker incorporated which works very well. I would say that you will need to have it bolted down fairly securely though - whilst they are very easy to use for taking standard cross section tyres of steel rims, alloys require a bit more force (especially if the tyres are lower profile types). I used some drop-in anchors (of the type commonly used for fixing scaffolding to walls) into holes drilled in my garage floor (I think they were M12 size).

These manual tyre changers are fine for dealing with steel rims, and are fine for removing tyres for the refurbishment of kerbed alloys where further damaging the paintwork isn't an issue, but if the alloys are in good order, you run the risk of damaging the paint around the rim (although using copious amounts of bead lube to help the walk-around lever to slide over the paint can minimise the risk). However, refitting the tyres to freshly refurbed alloys is more of a problem, since the new paint is probably not going to be fully hardened off when you need to refit. Specialist tyre levers with small plastic 'wheels' on them are available for use with alloys, but cost about double what you would pay for the walk-around tyre changer to start with.

It might be cheaper to get a cheap set of second hand wheels to use whilst you get yours refurbished, and take all four to a tyre depot and pay to have the tyres removed, and then go back and have them refitted after you have repainted them (with the aded advantage that they will balance them too).

Electrical failure on Diesel Streetwise

Electrical failure on Diesel Streetwise

I was driving along yesterday when suddenly all the electrics went off, but being a diesel the engine it still ran, it then flickered on every now and then. Leaving the engine running I checked out connections and with nothing blindingly obvious I made my way home. The electrics would every now and then come back on but only for a second or so each time. I parked up at home and turned off the ignition but the engine still ran for a minute being diesel. Now with the ignition off I had a bleep bleep noise coming from what I assume is the immobiliser sounder under a steel box in the engine bay (near the bonnet hinge above the fusebox). If you put the key in the ignition and turn it ready to start it you get the heater coil light the sbs light the oil pressure light and battery light all on and after the usual couple of seconds the coil and sbs lights go off but nothing else will happen except the bleep bleeep sound stops, theres no clicking starter solenoid nothing. When you turn the key back it starts bleeping again. The car door locks wont operate with the fob. Ive 13.7 volts on the battery and throughout the fuse box and with some lights on the dash there must be power there somewhere. Id appreciate anyones brilliant resolution to this as its driving me nuts

Info please re insuring 3 cars.

Hi all.

I have 2 cars on the road, they are in my name and I am the main insurer with my Husband as a named driver.

I am toying with getting a third car but I am really confused regarding the insurance.

I have just had a sniff online and because I am keeping my 2 cars am I correct in thinking I would essentially be starting from fresh with the 3rd car? Ie declaring no NCB?

Then there is the next question which they ask and it is "Have you been a named driver on someone else's policy?"
Well technically no but I have millions* of years of accident free driving in my own cars on my own policies and being an ex Driving Instructor it feels odd saying "No"

Also because they see me as a 'new' driver they don't seem to want me to protect my NCB (which I always do)
So if I had an accident in the 3rd car would this then mean I could potentially lose on my other policies?

My tiny pea-brain hurts, help please

Hey guys,

Got a bit of an odd issue. I am finding that my ZS180 will some times hold the revs high even though the throttle is closed (originally thought the cable was at fault) and the pedal is fully up.

It normally sticks around 2k rpm and will sit there until I dab the brakes or depress the clutch. The car is quite happy running itself at 30mph which is pretty annoying.

Any ideas on the cause?

Last fall there was a post about the yellow coolant warning label and I thought someone also posted a high resolution image of the early black coolant warning label (CDU3762) that is no longer available, but I can't find it using the search function.

Does anyone have a high resolution image of the early black coolant warning label? The one in my car is falling apart and I'd like to look into getting the black label remade but I don't have a good quality picture of one.

Thanks

Prizes with Chris Knott Insurance

Hi guys, you remember how we often run competitions and prize draws? Well, we wanted to check with you what you find the most attractive before we select this year's prizes.

The N/S front is about 4 cm lower than the O/S front, and I hear some metallic clonks and noises.
But it only happen every now and then, still didn't figure out exactly when.

Tomorrow I'll bring to a garage if they can pump the spheres.

Finger crossed ...

My new (to me) MG TF came with 17 inch wheels which is a problem to me as I intend to import the car into Spain and the required engineers report will no doubt pick up on the fact that the wheels are non standard. I am surprised that all discussion is about 15 or 16 inch wheels so is my set up unusual and would they shod with good tyres be of any value out there? As I am planning a road trip back to the UK their current location in Spain should not be such a problem.

MG TF 135 on the Dyno

Hi,

I took my TF to the rolling road for the first time today since I got the car a few years ago. Not sure why it took me so long, last time I looked around for a RR nearby I couldn't find any. This time I was luckier. Performance wise the car has a Pipercross panel filter, a ZandF ECU remap and a Piper backbox/downpipe/manifold (Mike Satur's Daytona). It also has 53,000 miles on the clock and it has recently been serviced with new sparkplugs, cambelt etc. For the record, it is a late 2009 TF 135 with the N-series engine and a more restrictive catalyst I believe. As it happens the car is booked for a DVA Power treatment later this May. I don't know what I was expecting but I was roughly hoping that each one of the mods would have added a few BHP. Well... here it is...

Rather confused at this stage. It seems a bit out of puff given the mods, I was expecting more, but is that reasonable? Torque is lb-ft rather than Nt-m. Or to put it another way, all the mods made no difference in terms of peak numbers. I wonder what would the graph have looked like before all the mods.

What do you think?

That said, I took this bad girl for a hand wash and polish afterwards and that surely added 20 bhp at least.

MG TF hood frame problems

Hi, I am new to this site having only recently bought my 2004 MG TF. The car came with a hard top but no soft top or frame. I have bought a Rimmer Bros frame and hood but that requires a number of parts to be swapped from the old frame which obviously us a problem for me. I think that some of the parts are still available but a particular part I cannot see in the Rimmer catalogue is the B post metal strip that seems to clamps the hood to the frame and provide the mounting for the rubber seal at the rear of the side window. Does anyone know if this is still available from anywhere? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why do threads keep disappearing?

Is it because posts are becoming inappropriate?

Are the mods advising the inappropriate posters?

Can we not just remove inappropriate posts, rather than losing all the information in the thread?

Fixed my washer jets.

Fixed my washer jets.

Front washer jets were totally useless, almost as if it was out of screenwash. Topped it up and still rubbish.

Disconnected the pipe at the drivers side wing, tested it pointing the hose away from the car and a good 5-6 foot jet of water, no problems there then.

So removed the screws for the scuttle panel to have a look at the piping, lifted the scuttle slightly and immediately could see the pipe was under the plastic and was discoloured and flattened where it had been clamped down between the two surfaces. Moved the pipe into the recess void and screwed the scuttle back down and hey presto all working properly again.

Guess it either has been like that from new or had some warranty work where the scuttle panel has been removed and replaced and in doing so trapping the water pipe.

2017 SYNOLOGY GT3 CHAMPIONSHIP – ROUND 2 - Daytona Road

2017 SYNOLOGY GT3 CHAMPIONSHIP – ROUND 2 - Daytona Road

Hi all, Round 2 update for those who follow it

Full blog can be found at 2017 SYNOLOGY GT3 CHAMPIONSHIP – ROUND 2 - Daytona Road

JANUARY 26, 2017

For the second round of the 2017 Synology GT3 Championship we move to Daytona Road Course to see if Eero Nomm can continue his impressive start to the Championship. After dominating round 1 at Phillip Island and crossing the line 18 seconds clear of fellow Bushfink driver Scott Brazier, the rest of the field had its work cut out this week. Reigning champion Ben Hackeson only managed 19 laps in round one before retiring and Craig Parkes came home 25th in a disappointing start to the season for last years top two. Parkes is one of 5 drivers making the jump to the Mercedes AMG GT3 for round two, taking a 15 point penalty in the process but looking to improve for the rest of the season.

After the iRacing Daytona 24 hour race last weekend we follow suit and go under the lights for this weeks race, qualifying also changed back to the usual format of lone sessions to help ease the congestion on track. For the rest of the season each driver will only have 4 laps to secure their place on the grid and attempt to avoid the carnage into T1.

Bodin Solutions lead the team championship after the first round with Replace Base second followed by Seagate, Acorn Printing & Synology while TMS Motorsport lag in 6th place after scoring just 76 points overall at round 1. What is interesting, albeit only after one round is the team standings, with many members commenting that the teams were too top heavy favoring Synology and TMS Motorsport. Time will only tell if the BOSRA team allocation system produces fair results across partner teams with the added unknown element of privateers such as Nomm taking an early lead.

Heater blower motors

My blower motor is pretty much dead, makes a horrible noise and will only work for a minute at a time before stopping altogether at any fan speed.

I have a spare that is from a 200, so does anyone know if the wiring for the blower motors was changed between the 200 and the 25?

Thanks.

280mm conversion: costs?

Starting from another thread, I summarize the project cost for a full MGF conversion to 280mm.

Assuming MGF Mania kit and owning standards calipers all around, with at least 15' alloys:

* 225£ Front 280mm Dimpled/Grooved
* 200£ Rear 280 MM Dimpled/Grooved
* 40£ Pagid new pads

Quote:

I like the idea of 280's. My fronts are in need of replacement soon. I only have a 14" spare tyre. I have asked if this would fit over a 280 conversion. Nobody seams to know. So if you do go 280's get another alloy as a spare to be on the safe side.

* Fifth alloy ... 60£~100£?

Total cost is ~550£ + labour (should be free in my case).
You can save 50£ for plain discs, but don't see it of any value.

New to the 75

Im here for just some general advise.

Not new to the Rover scene, but new to the 75. After my 25TD decided to throw its timing belt, I have replaced it with a nice tidyish 75 1.8t.

I dont know to much about the engine, but it seems strong, no mayo, runs clean, but needs a service.

The car looks to have sat for a while and needs a little love. Brakes need a good looking at and a few bushes need doing.

What Ive dropped in for is just general advise what to look at and keep an eye on. I know the k series suffers HGF and the water/oil needs an eye on it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Door Open Light and Alarm Intermittent

Hi All,

I've got a 2003 Rover 75 SE 1.8 Petrol with 80k miles on it, and while it's a solid car to drive (no head gasket problems thankfully) I appear to be having a couple of issues with the electricity and one issue with cooling.

It went in for it's MOT but the test was "abandoned" as it appeared to have overheated and dumped water all over the garage. Towed home, checked all over and while it appeared to be wet on the underside and dripping (has always done this, suspected air con perhaps?), I couldn't find a problem. Put some water in, started it up and ran it for 3 hours watching the temperature. The fan kicks in at 100-110'c and always cools back down, no problem. We did notice some copper particles in the coolant which we thought may be from a dodgy repair (rad weld type stuff) by the previous owner. Just curious if anyone else has had similar issues?

Now the main issue:

The alarm goes off at random intervals, can be fine for a week then goes off 4 times in a day. Thought it may be temperature related but it's done it in freezing rain and a warm day. In relation to this, the interior light often comes on of its own accord, which appears to be because the car thinks one of the doors is open. The door open light comes on randomly which can be quite distracting while driving, and I can't seem to find any rhyme or reason as to why. We think this may be causing the alarm to go off, if it thinks the car is being broken into perhaps? Leaving the car unlocked stops the alarm going off but I don't like doing this, and the interior light still comes on.

The interior light has already drained the battery once which was rather annoying. The battery runs at 14.3V so I don't think that's the problem, was thinking low voltage could cause something to trip?

Now we have noticed that there is water in the wheel well in the boot, so water is getting in from somewhere. It looks like it is coming in from one of the wheel arches as the boot seals are all dry. The water has ran down and under the back seat, is there anything under here that could be tripping if it's shorting out or getting a bad ground? I have seen people say that adjusting the bonnet bump stops can help with this sort of issue however the car does it when stationary so it's not like the bonnet is lifting during driving.

Going to try and dry the car out when the weather gets a bit better but does anyone have any ideas of what else could be causing the problem?

Thanks in advance.

adding headlight washers

adding headlight washers

Just putting a ZT front on one of my 75s and have been doing a bit of research on adding the headlight washers.
The short story is it appears you can retro fit the washers to a 75 as long as you have a specific horn (bbus) and the required second washer pump to the existing tank (there is a spot already there for it) but the real issue appears to be the activation of the BCU to switch on the headlight washer option which is linked to this bbus horn.
Im assuming all the wiring for the second pump and the bbus horn are in place ??
It appears that it needs a T4 session but when that was tried it was found that an earlier disc version of T4 was required,a T1 disc.
Im wondering if anyone has used TOAF to enable headlight washers or if TOAF can access the option ?
Im aware there is an alternative setup to make the headlight washers work using 2 relays but it would be nice to get the factory setup to work if possible.
Trying to ascertain this before buying a bbus horn .

Knocking noise from spark plug?

Hi guys, have a knocking coming from the spark plug (1.8 120 K Series).
I have replaced the spark plugs, still making the noise then HT Leads and coil packs which sorted the same noise from no. 4 (last bit on video).
No. 2 is still making it, if i rest my finger on the top of the HT lead it will get louder, twisting slightly and it stops.

I have a video here to show what i mean

Thanks

MOT this week and windscreen washer stopped working

My Mot runs out this week so I need fix windscreen by this Thursday. It's a Rover 45 2.0td 52 plate.

1) To help me be faster does anyone know which is the rear and front windscreen washer?

2) There is no filter on the washer motor, just one large rubber grommet/seal. Does this matter?

3) And any tips on the following?

The pressure on both windscreen washers was low and so following the very good threads on this site I removed the drivers side front wheel and took out a stud from the arch liner and accessed the washer pumps to clean the filters. I took out the washer pump located nearest to the driver side road wheel. Not the pump at the front. There was no filter. When I tried to test it and put it back together I cannot hear that motor on a test or get any water out of the front washers.

With it all back together no water out of the front windscreen washers. The rear windscreen washer has improved.

I did not pull out the washer pump on the front of the washer bottle. And working alone so I cannot put my ear near enough to the pumps/motor when I operate them so that I am unsure which pump on the bottle is not working.

I assume I will now need to wire a bulb to the wires this evening and see if I can make it light up?

Compatible CD changer and lead and front fog light question

Hi all, work on my 1999 Ti has progressed well and she is currently enjoying a rest in my nice warm garage over the winter months. Whilst not in use I have been sourcing the remaining parts I need to make her perfect.
I am after a pair of replacement rear brake shields, as mine are in a terrible state. I tried to source some via a contact in the trade using the Accord part No.s found on here without any success, can the non-abs variety be adapted or modified to fit as I believe they may still be available?
Can anyone confirm which make and model of CD changer and lead is compatible with the R860 radio cassette, also details of the boot mounting bracket arrangement?

A final question regarding the front fog lights, whilst checking my lighting for the MOT in October I noticed the front fogs came on when I pressed the button but went off when I released it?
At first I thought it was the switch failing to latch but after examining a spare rear fog switch internals, I suspect the relay or control unit has the latch function. Can anyone confirm this and whether or not the car has a latching relay or control unit for the front fogs?

Help - Alarm Problem - Doors locked!

Hi All

Just got back to UK and took my MGTF 20014 our of its long sleep. Connected battery and all was ok doors locked/unlocked armed etc. But today went out for a run. parked locked car with fob (Pektron). Returned hour later. would not unlock with fob! Opened with key, but passenger door would not open (wife had to climb in over door with hood down - Not happy) Car started drove down road. stopped now both doors locked and would not open. Got car home (both climbing in/out over doors!)

Have tried. Disconnecting battery again and reconnecting. Doors still locked, alarm sounds, (horn disconnected). Did manage to get drivers door open with key, but when I closed it the door would not open again with fob or key.

Have synced the fob, no effect.

Has anyone any suggestions. I am at a loss and cannot use it, unless I climb in (not good when its raining!)

Please help. Thanks in advance.

Battery warning light

The battery warning light started shining on my car yesterday, already have ABS and SRS lit. I know it's alternator related. I have a very minor leak from the PAS. It's a two pin rectifier pack that I have ordered as a cheap fix option. Can this be done in situ. Just getting the plug on and off at the back of the alternator was a skin removing job. If it can be done on the car, what needs removing. I was thinking oil filter and bracket. Can anything else be undone and moved out of the way. It's a 2005 2.0 cdti ZTT Facelift, no Webasto, no extra gizmos but the PAS reservoir is really in the way. The belt looks in good nick , is it worth replacing anyway?

You should have the details on your V5C Logbook?
In there should be written what tyre you car needs on front/rear.

Once found it, try have a search on ebay, is often a good starting point.

Regarding the rust, I'm not sure if is more cracked than rusty.

In either case, a refurbish of the alloy could fix the problem and avoid searching for correct wheel size?

Door card re-trim

Hi there,

My venerable 45 Club is now entering its 17th year (yikes!) and has finally succumbed to the common problem of the door card fabric pulling away from the backing on all four doors. It's a shame as the rest of the interior is spot on, especially the seats which look like they come from a car a fraction of the age!

My missus is a dab hand at upholstery (she renovates household furniture in her spare time) so I'm thinking of letting her have a crack at them. Was thinking about simply buying some automotive-quality fabric that's a near match (not to worried about an exact match) and some fabric spray adhesive.

Anybody tried this? If so, have you got any tips?

Thanks!

Red light on dash and brake seems to have lost abs

As says above/title.
Car was fine then suddenly when I brake Pedal appears to have gone soft/spongey for 1st part of its travel, braking is massively reduced from its previous performance only yesterday.
And If I brake anything less than very delicately, and push a bit firmer/faster the brakes seem to lock up just like if the ABS is out.

Can someone help/point me in the right direction with this one, is this a common problem people have had before?

Hi, Just purchased a 1999 214 at the weekend as a runaround, work commute vehicle. Always liked them and I'm very happy to have picked up a tidy clean example which is lovely to drive. It was cheap and therefore has a couple of niggles...Firstly my key fob will not open the central locking, I've changed the battery and tried the open door lock and press lock button trick which I read about on here, but no avail. A local Locksmith was able to test the fob transponder and it is transmitting so I guess the problem lies with the car. The rear wiper is stuck permanently on, so the fuse is disabled and the rear window de-mister doesn't work although the button lights up. Add to that the heating only works on settings 3 & 4, and I've seen already by looking at the forum that these are common complaints. Any help or links to help pages would be greatly appreciated. Cheers for now.

Cotton Green panel Filter

not to hijack (go off topic) on the other thread where I was asking questions about replacing my small air box (268 x 108 x 65 filter) for the larger (294 x 142 x 50 filter) off the MG TF air box, I’ve started this new thread

I’ve took out my small air filter box and now looking at what panel filter to get for the MG TF air box I will be using

I have been reading some good reports about the Cotton Green Filter, has anyone any opinions or experience on this or other cotton panel filters for the MG TF air box, and best place to get one from?

I was originally planning on fitting a 100mm diameter breather pipe to the air box, but that was before I saw just how little room I will have. so thats out the window

I think I could get away with maybe a 70mm max breather pipe without having to pincer it in places to pass through to the side vent, I want to leave the breather pipe a smooth as possible, trying to not put in any sharp bends,

or would using the air breather tube that Rover fitted, the one that went to the rear of the engine bay be any good? I think its diameter is around 60mm, if I do use this then I’ll be also fitting the horn in to the air box, but cutting a new hole at the front of the air box for the breather pipe, and closing up the old hole at the back, only planing on one breather pipe

plan was using one of those corrugated tubing from eBay, something like this one
