Bought a ZR (cheap) with an oval key fob which didn't appear to work. Went to do a few minor repairs, tried to start it but car freaked out and set off alarm. Tried clicking fob, lock/unlock but couldn't even stop the noise by cutting the wires-even drowning didn't work! Now I get nothing except the 2 ignition lights, everything else is dead. Found the SCU disconnected and reconnected; battery is full (car and fob) I'd like to by-pass the whole works if possible but no-one out there is going to advise me how to steal a Rover!

Front brake caliper bolts

Hi

I've hit a problem when doing my BRM front brakes. I've loosened them off, but now cant get them either out or retightened they just spin inside the slider pins.

I've done pad and disc changes before on VW's and Fords before and never had this problem, they won't pull out with pliers and I can't figure out any way of compressing them to tighten them back up. I've tried wedging screwdrivers between the slider pins and caliper body to either hold them or separate them so I can replace the bolts but again with no success

So any advice would be appreciated as I'm completely stuck.

Thanks

ZS180 Clutch Pedal Issue?

Evenin' all!

Picked up the 180 today. Potentially a number of issues with it, but to start with, a question about the clutch pedal.

The pedal is pretty odd, at least to me. The start of the biting point is really low, but then the clutch finally egages fully very high. It makes pulling away interesting!

Is this a sign of the clutch master and/or slave cylinder issues? I've read that the original cylinders are poor, and from the looks of it, it still has the original.

I see that there seem to be two options (if I discount an original part). The Sheddist guy (Nigel?) or Dark Ice Designs. Any opinions on either of these? Pretty expensive, the Dark Ice one comes in at £190! Not sure on The Sheddist kit though.

Thanks

Really stupid question alert - unlocking the car

Hi again,

Apologies for what may be a daft question! The ZS has remote locking/unlocking. The stupid question is what happens if the remote stops working - how do you unlock or lock the car? The drivers front door handle appears to not have any locks for the key to fit into! There is a circular rubber blank where the key lock should be. Now, is the lock under this rubber blank or does the car not have a physical lock for the key? Told you it was daft...!

Thanks,

On the way to the small market town just north of here pulled out onto the A52 with no car in sight going north only to find a rather rapidly approaching car in my rear mirrors. Christ only now what speed he was doing.

So I planted my foot onto the throttle to move along and "Elsie" started to sing a bit. However at 6800 RPM she stuttered ................................ hmmmmmm seems she has a small issue.

First port of call will be a new fule filter as i don't know when it was changed. The plugs look hardly worn and the leads are pretty new from the look of it. So if the fuel filter does not help where do i look next?

Less hassle to scrap it!

Well that was a fun day ..... wasted hours (mainly on hold to numerous brokers who, as the average hold was over 15 minutes, I assume don't need any new business) to find out that it basically doesn't matter that I have a 'main use' car, or that I'l do less than 3000 miles, or that I'm old and live in a decent postcode ..... those that could be bothered to quote for my 820 coupe wanted more as a second car than as a main use car as all bar one wouldn't transfer ncb to the second car .... I may as well be a scally coming off a ban,

What happened to brokers that used to realise it's impossible to drive both cars at the same time and the 'classic' car will be driven more sedately/looked after? The ridiculous conclusion is that I'll be about £400 better off if I scrap the 200 and declare the coupe as my 'main use' vehicle on unlimited mileage!

No oil in the water nor water in oil

Starter Motor or Immobiliser???

I have recently started having some starting issues with 54 plate ZTcdti. On occasion it fails to turn over - I just get a click from engine and then nothing. All the lights come on as they should on the dashboard, plus the stereo and I can hear the fuel pumps working -front and rear.

Sometimes it just fails to start after a couple of attempts and then it fires up as normal.

Yesterday it took about 10 attempts for it to start, so clearly the problem is getting worse (although this morning it started first time).

I was thinking about getting a starter motor repair kit from ebay for about a tenner and replace the necessary parts.

The only thing that bothers me is that the sypmton is the same as the immobiliser cutting in.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if it was the starter motor. Also are these repair kits any good or should I look for a recon motor?

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Cheers.

Help*

Hi i have a MG Rover ZR and having problems with it and need some advise on what i should. I get around alot with my work and sometimes need to go on motorways i was driving to coventry and noticed when i put my foot down the car temp gauge when sky high but after a few mins it went back down. Once i finnished the journey i popped the hood to my surprise the coolant tanks was overflowed and sizzling. It started to cool down and the level went right down to nothing as if it drank it all. a few days later i notice there was the brown oily substance building up inside the tank. Im no expert but sounds like head gasket. There are no leaks round the engine, check the dipstick it has no water on it also check the oil cap and there is no build up there either. Is it the head gasket? or another problem. if you want me to take a few pictures and upload them i'd be happy to do so.

Hi, anybody got any ideas about this problem. I've had an MGF for a few years, normally runs well although does a low mileage- now on 64K. Head gasket replaced 2 or 3 years ago, and water pipes recently.

The last 2 times I went for a run, after several miles, while travelling fairly slowly, the engine just died. I poked at the few wires and connections you can get at just by lifting out the wire grille. Engine started OK and drove home. Both times checked out by a good garage- no fault found.

Is there a fuel filter which could be breaking up- bits blocking fuel pipe then dispersing again when engine off? Any thoughts? Thanks, Mike.

Rover 220 sdi (MNX) platinum silver for sale

Hi all,

It is with a heavy heart I am having to sell my rover 200.

I bought the car five years ago with 80k on the clock, and has served me very well.

Reason for me selling is due to a hectic home life and simply do not have the time to put a beautiful car through it's mot again or have it sat doing nothing would rather it go to a good home.

It failed on a multitude of things which I'll list later and what bits I've fixed.

I will be honest and forthcoming as I can, so please bear with me:

The was bought has standard, however over the years the tuning bug hit me, the car is tuned from a standard of 105bhp to 125bhp and 226 ft-ib of torque.

I wish I could say the car is immaculate but I can't, due to the front bumper and various rust that has started taking hold.

Mechanically the car is fine, runs and drives ok, maybe a bit Smokey for some but this is due to the map on it.

I will list some of the good and bad:

Good:

282mm front discs and pads

Dark ice outlet

Roose motorsport intercooler hoses

Large fmic

Vi half leather seats

Brm doorcards

Brm centre console

Brm handbrake

CG stage 1 clutch kit

Possibly loads more.

Bad:

Front bumper needs repainting and sorting out

Various bits of rust

Alloys are knackered, bought second hand with aims of refurbishing in gunmetal grey

Slight oil leak coming from cam carrier

Needs different headlights to pass mot

Read drums need adjusting to pass mot

I'll upload the pictures shortly.

Car is based in Leicester and has six months tax no mot.

Offers considered and if I get a decent offer I will throw in a td0411g turbo which is connected to a spare manifold in case anyone wants to finish where I left it.

Thankyou for reading this long post.

Mg zr coilover question (settings )

Hey guys not been on the forums for a whole hope your all well.

Ok so first of.

I purchased some gaz gold coilovers ( the ones that usually cost £1200 ) for a very good price not so long ago.

I fitted them onto the car and all was well, they are very clean and have no leaks, height and damper adjustable and was told they had Uprated springs also.

Anyway after lowering them to the point of just snugging under the wheel arch, nothing too crazy! When driving on a complete flat surface I have no problem, round corners it's like glue also! However.... When going over road such as the a12 where there are short dips and uneven long parts on the surface of the road ( I don't mean pot holes are holes in general )as most of the English roads are now, I get a most ridiculous pogo effect or trampoline effect. It will dip then bounce kinda long a couple of times before then calming down again so my head stops hitting the roof ( yes this does happen! )

Now at the moment because the car is sitting quite low, when you remove the wheels and feel around the coilover's the springs sit loose due to it being that low. However my damper settings are on about 5 clicks in on the front and 4 - 6+ in on the back, I think there's roughly about 20 - 25 clicks + it can go to firm up the damper. So at the moment it's quite loose ( spongey )

I'm wondering what settings people haver there coilover's on and if increasing the damper and maybe raising the car a little more may be needed.

Thanks

Aaron

My new derv.

Having gone from a 25, to a 45, I've now made the jump to a ZR. Been waiting to buy it for about 4 years as my mate owned it, but he's gone for a 3 series now.

Sailed through last MOT with no advisories, all belts done last year, 105k on the clock, absolutely superb condition. No leaks to speak of, and only the odd age-related mark and light scratch here and there. 2 of the alloys need a refurb though. I know he doesn't drive like a knob either so it's not had any abuse in the last 4 years.

Planning on some light rear tints but that's pretty much it. Also it's definitely been remapped - no SDIs though; can tell as I had SDI + remap in my 25 + 45. The mate in question didn't know it was remapped. I love how the ZR drives though, so firm and direct. I'd have liked a 5 door for practicality but you can't win 100% of the time.

Happy days. Scuse the pics; combination of crap phone camera and crap weather.

New Owner (2nd Time Lucky)

Hi again, I haven't posted an update since the post explaining about my various problems with my MG6 Magnette VX11 GUA one of the original press cars.

After around 1 week of complaining with MG including there head of customer relationships they eventually came back with a deal on a 13 Plate GT TSE in White with a 9k on the clock. It was a very good deal and they took the old car back and I gave them a small sum extra. Although I preferred the shape of the Magnette I actually now prefer the GT with its sporty look, and its now 2 years newer than mine was, so 2 years warranty and a fraction of the miles at 9k. They also put 12 months tax on it.

MG had one of there local car companies tint the rear windows, which look great. I then took it to a vehicle wrapping place nearby the Sales Centre. Originally thought of a mattes finish but then went with Gloss, and it looks so good. Especially with the tints at the back it makes it look like one big panoramic sunroof. Best of all this car has no issues! Loving the 6 again.

I have posted a link below which should allow anyone to see a few snaps on the car, as I can't remember how to on here.

MG adds to rapidly expanding dealer network

  • MG appoints 20 retailers in just seven months to the marque’s UK dealer network

  • MG on target for network of 80 dealers by end of 2014, MG’s 90th anniversary year

  • Fastest growing automotive brand in the UK according to SMMT

  • 0% APR PCP offers on MG3 from just £99 a month or £0 deposit

  • MG6 PCP from £199 a month and complete peace of mind with High 5 campaign

  • Franchise agreement with an Auto Trader Top 200 Automotive Group member

MG has added 20 new sites to the iconic marque’s rapidly expanding dealer network in just seven months, as part of ambitious plans to double the amount of MG retailers in the UK by the end of the year.

The huge expansion of the dealer network has been reflected in a surge of MG sales. MG is now the fastest growing brand in the country, as recently announced SMMT figures show an astonishing 715 per cent increase in sales since the beginning of the year.

Four new sites have opened in the last few weeks including:

County MG in Bicester, situated just one mile away from Bicester Village, the UK’s leading designer outlet village, attracting more than five million visitors a year to its 130 boutique stores.

In Brecon, Wales, one of Britain’s brightest female rally stars is one of the latest dealers to join the MG Motor UK retail network. Sara Williams is currently the most successful female British driver in the history of British national rallying, becoming the first woman in 30 years to win a British national rally outright at the Swansea Bay Rally last May.

Recently appointed Maidstone MG will be run by the F. G. Barnes and Sons Group, one of the region’s best-known family firms, operating seven automotive sites across Surrey and Kent. As one of the largest automotive groups in the UK, it regularly features in the Motor Trader Top 200 and last year announced a turnover of over £65 million.

Purbeck MG in Wareham will cover the Purbeck peninsula and key towns such as Poole, Swanage and the western area of Bournemouth.

Since November 2013, 20 new MG dealerships have opened in south Sheffield, Dudley, Gloucester, north Sheffield, Woking, Spalding, Barnes in West London, Newcastle, Leicester, Harrogate, Doncaster, Northampton, Swindon, Norwich, Falmouth, Brecon, Maidstone, Wareham on the Purbeck peninsula, Oxfordshire and Exeter.

Further new dealer appointments will be announced shortly, as MG plans to have around 80 sales dealerships on board by the end of the year, these will be supported by a further network of MG after sales specialists.

Engine Question

Another question from me.

About engines this time.

So its between the CDTI 2.0 or 2.5 V6.

I've got a TF at the moment, so am very familiarly with the K-series, all its lovely yummy bits and its other not so good bits.

How is the 2.5 V6 when it comes to the ZT's? I've seen they have a lot more easily and lower quality perishable bits, from you owners (as the TF owners in general are a skittish lot afraid of using the engine before the oil hits temp, me included) are you paranoid about your engine? Does the 2.5 even have the same sort of problems, or is it more or a workhorse?

I've heard nothing but good things about the 2.0 CDTI, but however the car prices are a lot higher than that 2.5 V6, a bit more than I can stretch my budget too (going for like 1.5K).

I dont *think* I'm afraid of getting a high milage car, wouldnt mind one around the 100K if its been looked after.

The plan would be to get the MS Hub Adapters to convert to a 114 PCD according to his website.

Now the thing is I've seen a set of wheels that are 114.3 PCD, is that the same thing or would they not fit?

The wheels are 16", 7J, ET 45 and center bore is 73mm. Would they fit? If they would, what tire sizes would I need on them?

Thanks,

Wheel on fire?

Took my 400 out for a spin yesterday after it had been sitting for 2 weeks.

There's been a slight rubbing sound coming from the left front wheel which was really, really bad yesterday. (there's also a noise when I turn hard right - e.g on a round about)

Anyway, I took it for a blast up and down the main road for 3 miles and when I got back there was smoke coming from the front left wheel.... mainly from around that 'thing' which sits against the disc brake. Anyway - I poured best part of 15 liters of water over it to cool it down (I was convinced it would set fire to the tyre if I didn't :S)

Anyway - clearly something needs doing to it - the pads were replaced last summer but the car has probably only done 1500 - 2000 miles since then at the most.

Can anyone advise or link me to a self help guide which can solve this issue - i'm currently between jobs so its not trying to be cheap just careful.

Discs look in good condition - I was told by the mechanic last year they have a lot of wear left in them... so i dont think it will be them? /hope it won't be...

Anyway some advice would be greatly appreciated - or if anyone lives in Scabsville Massachusetts (Scarborough) and fancies supervising me while I fix it then feel free haha!

thanks in advance !

TF LE Cool blue - OEM Spec questions

Hi all,

I have a 2003 cool blue, which I've done a fair bit of mechanical work on, but over the winter I'm planning some cosmetic enhancements. My aim is to take what is a car in outstanding condition, to almost perfect. (Whilst keeping the car completely standard with nothing added that wasn't part of the original spec.

I have the abingdon wheels which I plan to refurb in the original silver, and change the gearknob and remove stickers from the body that came from an LE 500.)

anyway, my car has the smaller brakes which are painted blue. These need some work, but can anyone tell me of this colour was a factory option? All other cool blues I've seen have std finish calipers. (I.e. corrosion protected bare metal finish)

Thanks

Probably the stupidest question this month/year but I'd rather be sure.

A guy told me he has ZS seats to flog, but doesn't know if they're heated. I asked him to check if there's wires underneath - he said there's 2 plugs, and 4 wires total.

This can presumably only mean they're heated then I assume? I'm not sure if seatbelt tensioners or airbags or something similar could be in some way related.

Car wont start!

Can any one urgently help?

Recently I noticed that the all the lights on the drivers side were out on my 03 Rover 25. I changed the fuse (15) which made all the lights work again, or so I thought. I recently noticed none of them were working again. This has happened a few times now. After investigating, I have realised that it is when I close the boot, is when the fuse blows again! If the boot is closed and I replace the fuse, it blows straight away.

Since then I added tape to the boot clasp to start the connection. This helped to stop the light fuse problem. However, I have now just gone to use my car. the alarm went off as soon as I used my fob, my fob wont work. I stopped the alarm by pulling out the fuse I put in earlier but the car will not start now!! Fob is still not working and can't lock the car.

Any ideas???

Low liners 1.8 K-series engine

Hi folks,

My Dad and his late brother have always been Rover fans as long as I can remember and the car's they had always gave good service.

My Dad bought the Rover 75 1.8 in 2005 from new and has been very happy with this car and keeps it spotlessly clean.

Two years ago a water leak from the HG started to become more serious so I replaced the HG and the car has been fine until about four weeks ago.

At first it seemed the car was over heating but and after some investigation it looked like another HGF was allowing combustion gas leak into the cooling system.

I removed the cylinder head and had it skimmed then reassembled it with new cylinder head bolts and MLS gasket, the engine started and was running fine but the cooling system continued to bubble over.

At first I thought it was just an air lock but then realised there was too much air in the radiator and something more serious was wrong.

After a call to a local friendly garage I was informed of the low liner problem and they estimated the repair cost would be far more than the value of the car, I also made a call to company that specialise in engine rebuilds and they informed me they were not keen on doing work on this engine as previous jobs they had done had not worked out very well.

I was now left with having to tell my Dad his beloved Car would have to be scrapped.

I decided to have a look online to see how common this problem was and discovered a few posts explaining how shims could be used to raise the liner height but at first thought this job would be to big and involved to take on but after reading an excellent thread posted by Beinet1 I feel confident I can do a similar job and Save my Dad's Beloved Rover.

Work has already started on this project and the cylinder head has been removed and I can confirm the liners are under the minimum height tolerance. I will post some photos and reports how this job goes.

200tdi hybrids on standard Turbo, Testing updates.

I thought i'd start a different thread now the hybrids are in and running.

For those that haven't read my previous threads, I'm trying to see if these injectors can be run on a standard turbo, many say they will smoke too much so i'm trying to find out, but they probably will

My Mods are-

EGR blank, K&N panel filter, Decat, Pierburg MAF & Digimafam, 200tdi Hybrid injectors, Boost set to 20psi on standard turbo.

As a trial i fancied running the car on texaco 'supreme' diesel (texaco is the closest) with 2 stroke added (1:200)

My last update was at 18psi with a knackered Bosch MAF and the mafam on map 7 (sdi eco) Smoke was very big on part to full throttle. This was after trying maps 3 & 4 which were worse.

This morning i adjusted the actuator rod 1 turn, fitted the pierburg MAF and dropped the mafam setting to map 3. Boost is now 20psi.

Smoke is massively reduced over the previous test run. I can drive like a normal driver and steadily accelerate with minimal smoke, full stab at the throttle still gives plumes though, especially in 3rd. In normal driving the car will pull away nicely from a stand still using the clutch, there is no judder from the injectors and with normal driving and keeping the revs below 3k the car is an absolute pleasure to drive, really smooth but eager to make some progress.

My drive home from work tonight will have the mafam on setting 1 to start, then setting 7 to gauge the amount of smoke given out by each adjustment.

Cheers, Dave.

Flip Key conversion

Finally decided to do the flip key conversion on one of my keys.

Bought the flip shell of Remotefobcentre on eBay for 9.99 and took it to Mr Keys in Mexborough Rotherham 9as noted from a thread on the other forum about them being bale to cut the blank) as I was there today with work to get the blank cut for 5.00. My local Timpsons could not do it and neither could a key and lock specialist that deals with just about every key known to man, they could have done me a key with the key code as their machine is automatic and cuts to the key code, you can get these cut but it needs to be an independent key cutting shop that has a manual cutting machine to copy your old key pattern to the new blank.

Great service from both remotefobcentre and Mr keys, key works perfectly no issues and feels so much nicer to use snd no more blade jabbing me in the leg whilst in my pocket, so now I have 2 fully working keys still but also the original key that will manually unlock my doors but not start the car should I ever lock my keys in the car.

A cheap upgrade well worth doing IMHO, if I am totally truthful the new casing is a little rough in places but on the whole unless you stare at it closely you don't really notice it.

Not sure what I am going to do with the logo situation as yet as I would like the MG logo on it, but then again the old key had the Rover shaped button that was blank, a big oversight on the part of MGR/BMW by only having the one key design.

Free to a good home

I used to frequent this forum a fair bit when I had my Rover, so things have changed a bit and not sure if this is ok.

I'm not selling anything, but giving it away.

I have a Rover R770 radio/tape unit without a code, and also a K&N panel filter. The tape player is in very good nick for its age as I removed it as soon as I got the car. The filter will need a blow out and a re oil as its been in my garage about 8 years :)

Both from my 97 Rover 420 (T series petrol). I just found them in my shed.

Pics of my car are on here somewhere to prove I didn't nick the bits :)

If anyone is interested send me a pm. I can't be bothered posting anywhere as I'm only going to bin them anyway, and they're pretty much worthless.

So anyone wants them you will have to pop up and get them.

Again, free, well, for the price of getting up here to grab them.

As for Ebay, nope, can't be bothered to set up an account!

Is my Maf dead? ZS td

Hi all

I'm starting to think my MAF might be dead, for a few reasons. Firstly it feels quite gutless until it comes on boost at about 2k and smokes quite heavily off boost.

There is also no difference in power with it unplugged, leading me to believe it isn't working anyway?

I have also just scraped over 400 miles from full tank to red mark, which is pitiful. I do give it some boot in the lower rpm but rarely exceed 3k

Does not feel as powerful as it should for the spec (SDIs, 20psi, reidy map, dark ice outlet/roose hoses and a full stainless exhaust), and can only just keep up with a mates ZR that has just the SDIs and a bit of extra boost

Is this definitely the maf? If so what can I replace it with, as I have one of those digimaf things with the control knob on as well

Thanks

Hood covers

Has anyone here used the original MGR 'convertible hood transport cover'?

I'm asking as I'm considering keeping the TF outside fora few weeks while I do some jobs on the Stag and need something to keep the hood covered and dry, as one seam is coming apart & needs stitching.

Original ones are available on special offer at the moment which makes them significantly cheaper than Mike Satur's offerings, if they are any good.

Anyone know the difference between DSD100450 and DSD000080?

Thanks,

BEWARE / Avoid - www.mytyres.co.uk - awful company

Morning All

I just wanted to make you all aware of the details of my recent attempted tyre purchase from
www.mytyres.co.uk who I can only say are an awful company with no customer service skills or interest in getting a good reputation.

I ordered some tyres from them early last week and also used their online functionality to book an appointment at my selected garage for fitting, I got confirmation of everything and the tyres were meant to be fitted today, however I called the garage to confirm everything yesterday to be told that no booking was placed and that they had received no tyres even from mytyres and recommended I call them.

I called Mytyres to be told the emails confirmation was wrong and that I need to call and book the appointment myself with the garage (but this was not the issues), the issue was that they still nearly 7 working days later have not even passed the details to the warehouse to dispatch the tyres and when I asked why I was told that they just hadn't.

Then to add to the issue I asked when these will be dispatched and was told as follows:

"The tyres will be dispatched soon, I can't tell you when but when they are we will let you know.."

I requested a call back with a real update later that day and was told I would receive one, but this was not the case, I had to call again myself and was then told they had no stock of the tyres I ordered and that they would be shipping them as soon as they receive stock...

I cancelled the ordered and got the money back (obviously) but would highly recommend that this company are avoided at all costs as their customer service is non existent, their stock is clearly not as shown both on the site and ebay (as the tyres I wanted are also being sold by them on ebay and it says they have hundreds of them, I only wanted two so how they can say this is unreal).

Having had the immobiliser stay on, the Daughter's Rover 25 will not start. I have got her home using the 4 digit emergency code and now I need to remove the central locking 5as unit and post that plus the fobs for reprogramming. Driver door lock has gone missing too!!! Probably dropped into the door lol.

Question is where is it? I have taken off the fuse cover below the dash and not seen it. Is there another hiding place for it?

My Vvc F has finally arrived, loads of questions

Hi

My gold MGf has finally arrived, and for the price I'm over the moon, especially as the vendor has left the tax disk (4 months left). It's on a private plate at the moment, but it was originally on a Y reg (mk2).

Now for the questions

It has electric windows and electric mirrors, are these standard fit on a 1.8i Vvc?

It has colour coded (MG logo'd) mud flaps front and rear, were these a factory option or afterthought?

It's fitted with an after market stereo, what stereo was standard fit for that model year?

It is factory fitted with cloth seats, but was there a factory fit leather option

Many thanks

Stephen

Engine coolingfan Problem

Hi All - A little help is required concerning my 2005 tourer diesel .

The engine cooling fan has started to operate in a different manner recently . The engine at no time is overheating . The problem is Only happening when the air con (Auto) is 'on'.

The fan comes on and spins for approx 12 seconds then stops - after 25 secs idle it comes on again for 12 secs . If i switch off (econ) then the fan doesn't restart.

This 'new' cycle has not happened previously in over 6 years of ownership. The air con is 'cold' when required (Summer).

Another issue is the Battery goes flat after 2 or 3 days when the car is not in Use.

The Battery holds charge when disconnected . The car doesn't have hi-line sat nav , but does have the 'in phone' nav .

There are no water ingress issues and the drains are dry (Modified chamber some years ago)

MGOC point to the alternator - £175 and labour extra to remove the front bumper to get at at.

Can anyone throw light on these problems which appeared at the same time?

The car is 56K from new and is kept outside.

Thanks in advance .

Metro trim description

I have a pair of Metro front seats which are plain light grey with what could best described as a basket weave pattern centre panel. There is a darker grey piping between the panels. They are stamped October 1997 underneath. Can anybody tell me the MGR description for this pattern and which models/years they were used for. Any link for brochure/ images for late Metro trim options would be helpful.

I am looking for a rear seat to match the front seats.

Has anybody any ideas of a good breakers where I might find one.

Rear Brake Drum Squeek

Hi,

I've got a 2005 Rover 45, 60k miles, 1.4 with drum brakes in the rear. I've never had a Rover this old before, someone always crashed into them and wrote them off before this age.

Anyway, even when stationary, releasing the handbrake or the footbrake produces a metal squeak sound. Hard to tell where it is coming from, seemed like front until I found the handbrake alone also caused it.

Anyway, anyone had this before and found out what fixed it?

Car may well be on factory brake shoes, but passed the test just 6-7 k miles ago, seems fine otherwise.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Car wont start - Starter Motor?

Ok, short story is:

Tried to start or R211 this afternoon, it wont start.

It had its Sparkplugs and Air Filter changed last week and was fine after.

In the last 6 - 10 Months its had:

New Battery

New Dizzy Cap

New rotor arm

New HT Leads

New Distributor

I tried turning the lights on and turning over, they barely dimmed at all. Its just the whine, no "put put" of an attempt at ignition from what I can hear (when it had a weak spark).

Step-Dad suggested Starter Motor or Solenoid, thoughts? Any tests I can do?

It did play up over a year ago and it was just the connector I think. Help!

Strange knocking

I have a strange knocking/rattle, it sounds like it is behind the dash at the bottom on the drivers side A post. Occurs going over small bumps and is caused if the left or right front she'll goes over the bump. A speed ramp at normal spped makes no noise, but a slightly off level man hole cover will cause it. Is there something behind that part of the dash that could come loose?

75 Cdi Starts then stalls

After refitting the ECU that Marina Brian sorted I thought all was well! An earlier thread I started gives background.

However today, after the car has been parked on the street in sometimes heavy rain over the past few days, when I turned the ignition it started but after a few seconds stalled.

I repeated this and sometimes it would run for 30 seconds sometimes less before stalling. Trying to use the accelerator also caused it to stall.

At about the 10th attempt it ran fine and I took it for a drive and it ran very well. Does that rule out it being an injector issue?

I'm presuming that as it starts it cannot be a glow plug issue. As the ECU has been repaired I don't think it will be that. The plenum seems to drain ok too. The underbonnet pump sounded to be fine (it and the in tank pump where both replaced about 50k ago).

The can has done about 119k.

I'm guessing it may be a sensor or poor wiring from a sensor that is compromised when damp.

Any suggestions where to start checking?

thanks

Rob

116 Bhp - What are the options

Hi There,

I'm looking at buying a ZT and I've found a good example 116 Bhp. From what I can tell there are no differences to the engine, only the ecu to make give it 136? Is that correct? I'm not after a huge difference however, if the car will comfortably take 136 Bhp without any danger of ruining parts then it all makes sense.

Second question is therefore, who can do this for me and for how much? I live near Guildford.

Thanks,
